I know I know.... I hate to beat a dead horse, but I've read through the archives and still have some questions. I am in the process of building a 383 for my 1985 C4. It has been zero decked and has flat top single valve relief pistons. I will be running AFR 195 100% CNC ported heads, but I am yet to decide on a cam. I hope to make power to about 6000 rpm and will more than likely be running a Pro Shot direct port nitrous system. I am also running the breathless vortex rammer cold air intake system. It is a manual Zf 6 speed. I also have 3 ring and pinion sets 3.07, 3.55, and 3.75 that I can use. I am having a hard time deciding on an intake manifold, right now its a toss up between the Super ram and the Mini ram. Whichever intake I choose will be used this summer on a 350 which has ported plenum and heads. It also has a 494 494 lift 234 236 duration and 114 degrees of lobe separation. Any advice and/or recommendations will be appreciated. Thank you.

P.S. Any flow sheets or dyno tests on these two intakes would also be beneficial.

I believe the Holley Stealth Ram with the modified plenum (which allows it to fit under the stock hood) is the best setup for what you're doing.

The MiniRam gives up a lot down low. Here's a link to a site of a comparison between a heavily modified TPI setup and a MiniRam. You can see how much it loses down low; even more if the graph showed the numbers below 3600.

I know that the SR is a pain to install, but it is a proven setup for the L98.
However, it provides the low-end torque but it does tend to die around 5600 and if you must have 6000rpm then you might consder the Stealth.

i know the stealth ram is too tall to fit under the stock hood. what is the "modification" that makes it fit?

who does this modification - holley or other? who?

vetteman4350, you need to check out diabolicaldave's website, as he installed the stealth ram with modified plenum on his 427. He posted yesterday, I think. Look for a thread about 427 engine swap in, or something like that. He has a bunch of pics of his engine there, and you can see the intake setup. It looks sweet, I think. :seeya

There is no question in my mind that a 383 with a 6 speed should run a miniRam manifold. I would also recommend the 3.75 gear as well as a single pattern cam. Best performance with the NOS will require more exhaust duration however.

Bowtye8 ran a very similar combo with excellent results.

The mini ram is very similar to the LT1 intake with approximately 3 inches of runner length and I don't know about you, but I've been in some LT1s that would break your neck. In the link of the dyno run between the mini ram and the ported TPI it looks like they started at 3000 rpm and it had 280-290 foot pounds of torque, which isn't too bad. In 8/92 Hot Rod magazine did a torque and hp test on several setups, results for the mini ram on a 383 with airflow heads and a 58 mm throttle body were as follows:

I also found a chart comparing a stock TPI and the mini ram. At 2000 rpm the mini ram only lagged by 12 ft-lbs with a respectible 304.6. I had also thought that maybe a throttle body spacer could help a little on the bottom end.

in my opinion, if you have a manual transmission and are going to have larger cubes, which you meet both of the above, i would go with the miniram.
now if you have a stock 350 lower end then is a tossup.

So what do you guys think about the throttle body spacer idea? I have access to a machine shop and could make one of just about any length. I think this would provide more torque at a lower rpm.
