What Roller Cam for a Super Ram 383??
My roommate is looking for a roller cam for his Super Ramed 383 stroker. Even though the LPE 219 was designed for the SR, it not quit hot enough for his application. What do you guys suggest?
Set up:
350ci = .060+
400 crank
iron G.M. 202 heads (ported and polished)
Super Ram and base intake (ported and polished)
58mm TB
280 (.485/.485 lift)duration flat tappet hydraulic
1.6rr
1 5/8 headers
Built TCI tranny
2400 stall
3.75 gears
30# injectors
The car is fairly quick, but he wants high 11's on the motor (drag radials) and low 11's high 10's with a 150hp-200hp shot of Nitrous. Summit suggested the Comp Cam extreme Energy 288/294 Hydraulic Roller(he will need the retrofit kit because of the block).
All opinions welcome.

I think he can get dang close to his target on the motor with the right setup. I'm not a 1/4 mi guy, (road course events only) but the guy working on my '90 ZF now straigtened out an '86 Auto with AFR 220's and a STOCK intake and a not too big cam. It ran a 10.98! This is with the MAF My cam is a hyd roller 233/240 576"/558" (1.6/1.5). I have not dynoed it yet, but it's pretty serious. ;)

89vette is running an aggressive but streetable cam in his 396 SR:230 deg intake, 224 exhaust/.565"-.510" lift 114 lsa
363rwhp, 400-somthin TQ
I dont know if he wants more than that? Most people here use the 219.

Vader, those are 89vette's dyno numbers using the Hot Cam look-alike that he wanted to replace. I was expecting about 415RWHP.
To get the power out of the heads with the SuperRam, look for HR cam with an intake lobe that has 0.200" tappet lift duration in the mid 150's. Exhaust lobe will depend on the heads, but will generally not have more duration than the intake in any long-intake runner high-performance application. Consider a custom solid roller cam from the CompCams Xtreme Energy Street Roller series. The 280XSR, 286XSR, and 292XSR work well as intake lobes with the SuperRam. The correct choice depends on the rear gear and transmission.

89vette's old cam I think was Comp Cams 3109 intake lobe (276,220,138,0.544"), 3112 exhaust lobe (290,230,143,0.544"). The difference in power was night-and-day between the old and the new cam (230,224).

Let me correct it for Corey, those numbers for 89vette were for a CompCams custom grind 220/229.
He switched to the other since, i'm unable to find any dyno results for it, but that cam should be capable of putting your friend where he wants to be.
He may want to port the Superram with this cam. It looks like it'll want more top end air.

A 383/219/SR is a match made in heaven. My e.t. isn't as low as some of the other guys at 11.80 but my speed of 120.2 shows my 383/219/sr is thumpin' down the 1/4.
It starts and drives just like a stock car also.
Good luck.

The heads sound like the real restriction on his combo. That cam probably has 224* or 230*@ .050, and the .485" lift w/ 1.6 rockers should be about 512" or so. I've seen some pretty stout numbers with a cam like this, when used with good heads. JMHO

I just fired up my Custom Grind for my 406 Miniram engine.
233/233 @ .050",,,, 284/288 Adv-Dur,,, .576/.576.. w/1.6RR
I cant say if it is good for your engine, but it made a nice difference over my previous Custom Grind 225/233,,,280/289,,,541/526 w/1.6RR
