Default +8 HP gain with TB bypass kit

Really that good? Or is this another scam like the "TB airfoil"?

Naw, doubt you would ever really see that type of gain. Although its not completely worthless. I wouldn't buy a kit, just get a long piece of tubing and bypass it yourself for about $2 of hardward store supplies.
I did this on mine, it does seem to keep the throttle body a little cooler then it use to be, but after an hour of so its still just as headsoked as if coolent had been running through it.
Bottem line, if its not going to cost you go for it, otherwise spend your money elsewhere, IMHO.

No. It's not really that kind of mod. It just helps lower intake temps. 8 HP sounds pretty rediculous, but it's a mod you can do for free. I did it and I would recommend anybody to take the 15 minutes to do it. Just don't buy the kit to do this, that's where the scam is in this mod. Just look in the C4 tech tips section on how to do it.

Eventually, the engine's heat is conducted up through the intake parts to the plenum, and underhood heat doesn't help much either. I'd bet those hood louvres would add as much (or as little) HP as a TB coolant bypass. That being said... I bypassed mine anyways. :bb

I'm only doing it mainly to clean up the engine compartment a little, the two hoses will be elimintaed completely, all I need to do is get a new heater hose and upper rad hose from a '95 and I'm all set.

:withstupid: :yesnod: That's what I did to do the TB bypass. A lot cleaner looking and eliminates possible failure points.

Where exactly can you get blueprints to home make one of these bypasses?

 It's pretty common sensical really. Just get a length of heater hose, some plastic fittings, and hose clamps from the auto parts store. Then go to the hardware store and get some brass fittings to reduce if you feel the need to.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...=176&TopicID=2

...explains it all. The hoses you want to relocate are the 1 on the passenger side that goes to the heater box, and the other is on the drivers side that T's to the larger upper radiator hose.

Get yourself some rubber plugs at the hardware store too and zip tie them to the open nozzles that are leftover on the throttle body.

Now if you have anymore questions regarding this, no offense, but take your car to a mechanic and don't ever work on it. You probably should NEVER work on cars, that's how simple this procedure is, but I'm sure ANYONE can handle this.

:iagree:

The TB gets heat soaked after awhile during driving anyhow, so the bypass probably doesn't help much at all... but.... I too did mine anyhow

I think it makes is biggest difference is on freeway speeds. Before i did the mod i would slow to a stop and the tb would be warm and the intake too. Now after higher speeds the tb is like frozen cold just liek the intake. Its the difference in temperature that can make a difference.

Technically you don't gain hp from this, you just don't lose it to the heat.
