big block in a c4 questions?
Does anyone have a big block in their c4s , if so what all do you have to change. such as motor mounts, headers and what sizes, because if I do decide on a big block I am going for 540 + cubes and aroung 1200 horses. I have my eyes on a 434 small block that will make around 1000horses now, but if it is easy enough would rather buy a big block.......my car is a 92 with a full cage,a 9in rear , 4 link ,wheelie bars and a parachute, and weld alumna stars with 28x 13.5s 0n the back. thanks

Re: big block in a c4 questions? (redfast)
I want mid 8s with less nitrous, on the 434 it is 730 hp. on motor and I am going to put 300 horses worth of nitrous on top, big blocks make more power with less nitrous.

I have a big block sitting in an 86 right now. Of course you will need a set of custom headers. There is a clearance issue between the front frame that supports the suspension and both the oil pan and balancer. You can notch out this section of the frame and weld in a lower section. More likely than not you will have to get rid of the spring and use something else. My ride height didn't look to bad, but the spring is right under the piece that needs to be cut out (use coil overs). Just make sure when you weld in the new lower section it is low enough. Cutting out a section you just welded in sucks. With a low rise manifold a stock hood could be used, but the highrise looks neat.

From what I know you really only need to put a really deep notch in the front frame rail to clear the balancer. The exhuast headers also need custom work.

In my a.d.d. I forgot some of the other changes. You will to work something out with the pullies. If you use the wrong pullies they will hit the rack and pinion.

Do you have any pictures of your car. Sure would like to see some. I know of three C4's with BBC.
Thanks

I do not have any as of right now, but I can take some tomorrow. They won't be of everything, because I am in the process of removing the motor. I set the motor in to make sure everything fit after notching the frame and then I am going to rebuild the big block.
I do have pictures of the fuel injection I was going to use.

Search in the archives for BIG BLOCK fitment issues. This thread ran back around late 2002. There was an article in Vette magazine in Aug 98 that had an installation article.
