Can any one tell me the top speed of the C4 with the L89 engine???
Has to be standard as well.

Is there anything that has GM certifaction???

I don't think Gm certified that a vette will do a certain top speed but a few records are certified you just have to look.
A ZR-1 broke records in a 24 hour speed test.
A few car magazines have tested them depending on year this site has good info

1984 most magazines reported that the c4 was an honest 140mph car then the tpi motor came about in 1985 and the hp went to 235 and the mph jumped to 150 now for whatever reason the hp only climbed 10 more up to 1991 but top speed kept growing to around 160mph then the hp claims of the lt-1 motors took a 55 hp leap and the fastest top speed I've read has been 165mph until the zr-1 went 180mph-178mph depending on who was testing, elevation temperature,etc,these older vettes a reasonably cheap used for how fast they are. To this day you have to spend alot of money to go as fast as these cars can take you. They are just so damn slippery! I lovem :chevy

I've never run into an L98 quite THAT fast. :)

185 is the best I've seen from them with ideal conditions.:)

I read a MT ....April 1992 (maybe march or may, but i think it was april). That had top speeds tested.

The stock LT-1 Coupe they tested top'd out at 170-172 MPH with the most accurate measurement system possible, timing lights across a known distance.

That number strikes me as amazingly high. Ive seen Road and Track tests where that was the best a ZR-1 could achieve. However RT is known as being slower for some reason.

L98's should top out at 160, although dont hold me to that since I know more about the LT-1 cars.

Ive had my hot cam'd LT-1 at a speedo indicated 155 for a few seconds.

If this was possible it would take one of those 10 mile straightaway tracks to do it. It took me a good 3-4 miles to get to 154 in my '87 when stock and the miles ticking off from 145 and up were sooooo slow. I really don't think they have them in it. The power just isn't there in the upper RPM. Now it'll do that in less than a mile. :D

I was travelling at 80mph when i hit the gas all the way down for a bit more than half a mile. There i reached 125mph. Auto with 3.07(G92 rear)

I had mine around 139 with the targa off, I decided to lift, that was totally stock. I bet if I keep the top on, remove the mirrors I would hit 170 with these mods, maybe more with for a second with a shot of NOS.

I've run over 150 a few times on the highway, but mostly on the track, but you need to hear about my friend and "go faster mentor" - Ed Van Scoy. His '85 C4 is faster than most :D

Here's a link to the ZR-1 and L98 record-setting activity from the ZR-1 Net. http://www.zr1.net/ZR1_records.html Towards the bottom of that page is the text of an article written by Hib Halvorson who was present at the event.

Volkswagen "broke" the ZR-1 record recently. but VW pulled the plug on their W-12 motor and it never went into production so their numbers were never recorded as official records. That still leaves the ZR-1 as the record holder in those catagories show on the page.
