mobil 1 oil
i have 80,000 miles on my vette and it always had mobil 1 synetic 5-30 recently i been told that mobil oil is not that good i should change to castrol syntic 10-30 so i did but i don't know if that was a good idea because the car always had mobil 1 in it. what does everybody else use and is it safe to change brands after so many miles.

Re: mobil 1 oil (6spd)
I wouldn't change because it's really not that big of difference. If you really want good synthetic oil get Amsoil. From reading, it seems to be way BETTER than anything on the market, but it is expensive.

Re: mobil 1 oil (6spd)
10w30 synthetic, i only noticed Mobil 1 10w40 in a 'drive-clean' SAE blend
As to weight, I dont think it really matters between 30 and 40 for normal driving.

When I pulled mine apart at 78K (head gasket leak), the thing had almost zero wear after a life of Moble 1... Although I'm running straight 30 wt right now as a break in for the rings.

Re: mobil 1 oil (6spd)
Since you are all on the subject, I bought a 94 LT1 with 41k, they always used Royal Purple 5w-30? Now I'm not complaining, but curious if anyones heard much about that brand of oil versus Mobil 1. Thanks for the input

Re: mobil 1 oil (TheStef)
Are you driving a c5? Mobile 1 is an excellent oil my 92 has 110283 on the odometer. Previous owner sez thats all he used. Same as the man he bought it from....I realize I am taking their word for it but that is all I have used also. I am the 3rd owner. The inside of my engine is clean and still dynos 264 hp to the rear wheels and its still all stock internally my only "mods" are in my sig. They dont really make me go faster. Moble 1 will always be in my ride... PS... Im not saying tere arent better oils out there but M1 has proven itself..to me :flag :chevy

Here's a picture of the valley of my 92 when we pulled it. 90,000 and nothing but Mobil 1. That's what I'm running in my 396 after the breakin period. Amsoil, Royal Purple, and Castrol Syntic are all top quality oils. :steering:

Re: mobil 1 oil (Gar)
So, has anyone read any info on Amsoil synthetics. It's WAY more expensive, but it 'claims' WAY better protection. check out this site
