Baer Eradispeed brake kit from Mid-Am
Anybody get the complete Baer Eradispeed brake kit from MA. It's the one with the 13" front rotors and I believe 4 piston calipers. They look awesome, but I was wondering if they are worth it. Do they really improve braking over stock brakes?

I asked this question, and the answer was YES.
Some people tried to say the front calipers (no rears are given) in the BAER kit are nothing special. Nevertheless, people who had this reported better braking.

Shop around, I believe TByrne has the best prices on Baer.
Check the links on the left side of the page.

Good luck. They are a terrific setup.

I have this exact setup. This setup is nothing special, but it works ok if you don't race the car. It is just the factory J55 upgrade used in the Z07, GS, and ZR-1s. Except you get the 2 pc rotor and ss lines.
If you want some real brakes check out my thread in the C4 tech (Anyone interested in wilwood brake kit GP). I am trying to organize a group purchase for some wilwood 4 or 6 piston complete custom kits, if we get enough people you will have a REAL brake kit for less than this Baer kit.

zelement.
So its basically inadequete for racing? Ive heard people say stainless steel lines and notched rotors are the way to go for fade-free braking.
Id imagine it is light years ahead of the stock setup for racing.
What about the unsprung weight you saved ? If I replace my 4 twelve inch rotors with the eradispeed rotors, any idea how much weight i save ?
I too am considering these, and was surprised to see your post.
I am not willing to spend $2000 on brakes, so the Wilwood setups likely wont be for me. Ive seen some C5 brake options even higher than that.

I've been very happy with my Baers and while I've never taken them to a road course, they have seen street/strip duty without any issues.

Like the braking improvement over my single piston calipers, but then again, most anyting would improve over that. I'm not happy w/ the quality of the parts.
Not even a year after the install, one caliper is dragging. I called Baer 2 weeks after the 1yr warrenty expired. They said too bad, your SOL. They say this is common w/ calipers that have been road-coursed or raced. I'm sorry to say, I've never done this.
They didn't even care to correct their problem.
I have rebuilt the unit, and it still drags. The parts look fresh and new, so as I see it, it is a MFG or QControl issue. None the less, it is going to cost me more to fix it.
Baer won't be getting my business in the future.
I'd suggest looking at the Wilwood setup.

Re: Baer Eradispeed brake kit from Mid-Am (ZylaRace)
ZylaRace.
I appreciate the comments. Did you notice any improvement in acceleration, braking possibly due to the unsprung weight saved. I realized its not much weight saved, but multiply it times 4 and unsaved weight saved IS unsaved weight.
I hear people say the 2 front calipers (BAER) supplied in the kit are the same as the J55 / ZR-1 Brake option.
Does that mean that J55 brakes / ZR-1's also have problems with the calipers dragging
I am just trying to get a feel for what quality parts are available for improving braking, and I am taking it from your comments the BAER eradispeed setup (4 hub rotors, 4 stainless lines, 2 BAeR calipers) isnt any good...

Re: Baer Eradispeed brake kit from Mid-Am (RonRed89)
I don't believe that they are the same. The J55 is a single piston and the Baer is a 2 piston design by PBR. Baer does not do anything for the rears, but will sell you a GM rear caliper with a PBR/Baer logo for more than you'd pay GM for one.

Wrong
The Baer caliper is the PBR. They have taken the desing and machined the front and added their little Baer claw logo.
The J55/GS calipers are the same two piston design, and are just as efficient for cheaper. Save your money and buy the calipers elsewhere. The rotors can be bought cheaper than that at other sources than MAD/Ecklers/TLD

Re: Baer Eradispeed brake kit from Mid-Am (Trog)
You are correct sir. Baer system and the Stock GM system are identical. They get the calipers from the same manufacturer. They LOOK better and the rotors are slightly better, but you probably won't notice a difference. You'd probably notice a larger difference if you just went to hawk pads. Get a C5 upgrade. That's a REAL upgrade.

Mark, here's a post that I did on brakes and wheels concerning the C5 stuff. It may help you.

The J55s tho' better than the stock 12s, are just 13" 12s, Same pad #.
