Stock wheel weight vs. AFS or aftermarket
I thought I had saved a link listing the weight of the stock wheels but I can't find it. Search is NO HELP.
I weighed my AFS wheels with no tires and came up with this:
17x11 = 22lbs.
17x9.5 = 20lbs.
I plan on taking the scale and seeing what they weigh with tires on them and compare that to my stock wheels and tires weight.
Also like to hear from anyone that has lighter than stock aftermarket wheels and what type they are?

Re: Stock wheel weight vs. AFS or aftermarket (TheStef)
I don't have the weights for just the wheels, but this may be of interest to someone other than me:
Stockwheels/Goodyear F1s .................. HRE/Kumho
45lbs.... (17 x 8.5, 255-45)..... front ..... 48lbs ... (17 x 9.5, 255-45)
46lbs.... (17 x 9.5, 285-40)..... rear ...... 50lbs ... (17 x 10.0, 285-40
Just put them on today and the weight surprised me.
(bathroom, not precision, scale...)

I am just wondering if the 3-4 pound difference is based on both type tires being new.
I read somewhere that a "bald" tire might weight 3-4 pounds less than a new full thread depth tire.
So if you weighed an old set coming off compared to new set going on there could be a couple pounds of error based on tread wear???????
It looks like in both cases your new combos weighed more than old...just wondering...did the old combo have significant tread missing??

In my case the rears did have less tread, but the fronts still had a lot left.

Jeez, those wheel tire combos weight the same as one off my '62 Pontiac! (I think it was apx 45lbs). Granted, they're 14 inch wheels, but they're steel! Would've figured the Corvette wheels to be lighter than that.

A brand new (with nipples) 275/40 ZR-17 ECSTA Supra tire on 17 inch / 9.5 inch 84-87 Corvette AFS wheel weighs 55 pounds.
A bald P255/50ZR16 Goodyear Eagle GS/C tire on stock 16 inch / 9.5 inch 85 Corvette wheel weighs 45.5 pounds

Re: Stock wheel weight vs. AFS or aftermarket (R94 LT 1)
I found this on a site search... while no C4 wheel weights were shown, here is a ZO6 wheel for comparison (off the same site)
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 02 Cast/Spun 17x9.5 - 19.2 lbs
Dymag Callaway Corvette Cast Mg 17x8 - 12.9 lbs (wheel is actually 17x9.5) as no Callaway Dymag was produced in an 8 inch width...
If you are seriously thinking about these lightweight wheels, please check out this thread> Dymag Corvette wheel thread
and here is a link to wheel weights> http://www.seanet.com/~jgtang/wheel.txt
hope this helps

Re: Stock wheel weight vs. AFS or aftermarket (Mr Mojo)
In my case, the old fronts and rears have at least 3/4 of the rubber left on them.
With what Mojo reports, I guess the stock wheels aren't all that bad, eh?

Stock:
17x8.5 with worn Michelin XGT Z4 Pilots - 43lbs.
17x9.5 with worn Michelin XGT Z4 Pilots - 47lbs.
AFS:
17x9.5 with new Yokohama AVS Sports - 53lbs.
17x11 with new Yokahama AVS Sports- 59lbs.
All total, an additional 44 pounds extra. What shocked me was I had weighted the AFS wheels before having the tires mounted and then after. The freaking tires weight MORE THAN THE WHEELS!
Guess I need to pull the tire tool, spare, carrier, and jack to make up for the additional weight! :D

Re: Stock wheel weight vs. AFS or aftermarket (R94 LT 1)
Does anyone have the weights of stock rims (sawblades) without tires?? We have the AFS rim-only weights, so what we really need to make a fair comparison is some rim-only stock weights.
As some have already shown here, tire weights are going to differ wildly.
I was going to get some AFS wheels, but if they are 3-5 lbs. heavier per wheel than stock, forget it. Anyone who has any kind of physics background knows that rotational mass is a much bigger deal than static weight.

Did you notice an increase in 1/4 mile times with your AFS wheels compared to stock?
