I was for sure going to chose the Hot Cam if I built the 350, but I've decided to go for the 383 and am not sure if this is enough cam. I want something that has a noticible idle, but not something that can't be driven on the street. I wouldn't exactly say this is going to be my daily driver. I want something streetable, but a little racy. I was considering a Comp Cam. I don't think I really want to do a custom grind. Based on a post search, it looks like the CC306 is a bit too much. I was leaning toward the CC305.

Here's the specs (w/ 1.6 RR):

Hot Cam:
duration: I 279 E 287
duration @.050: I 218 E 228
lift: I 525 E 525
LSA: 112 degrees

CC305:
duration: I 276 E 290
duration @.050: I 220 E 230
lift: I 544 E 544
LSA: 114 degrees

CC306:
duration: I 290 E 307
duration @.050: I 230 E 244
lift: I 544 E 576
LSA: 112 degrees

Any thoughts?

When I was going to build a 383 the CC 306 was my choice. I think it is a great cam with the extra cubes and will realy make some nice power.

after some IAC adjustment.. it idles similar to stock with lots of power! I will gone one step bigger next time in duration.. stock lt1 heads stop flowing around well before .600 of lift intake..

Eric Fisher left the Hot cam in when he upgradded his fathers LT4 to a 396. So far it's gone 11.3 or 4 with stock manifolds. The car sounds pretty much like stock with only a slight lump in the idle that's normal with the Hot cam. So the cam does work well on bigger cube motors!

The bigger displacement likes a bit more duration than the HotCam has. I agree, the CC306 is a lot of cam.

If I were to build a NA 383LT1 motor. I would go extreme grind like 230/238 at .05 .610 w/1.6 rockers.

I am running a extreme grind 222/230 @.05 .604 lift. on my blown 383LT1. car idle great have 25' of vaccum.

The HOT CAM is to small for a 383ci motor. But it is perfect for a 350ci.

The 383/Hot Cam combo is terrific for the street. That's what I have and I love it. Noticeable idle, but excellent throttle response throughout the range, and wonderful torque, especially over 3000 RPM.

I probably should have given a little more info on my setup, at least the parts I have now. The heads have been reworked pretty good by LPE (supposedly), the intake has been port matched, 52 mm TB, and long tube headers, and custom tuning. I'm going to be limited to .600 lift unless I change valve springs. Thanks for the info so far.

Have you considered the LPE 74219 cam 219 dur 560 lift. It is the one LPE uses in its 383 stroker and it gets rave reviews by its users. :yesnod:

For some reason I thought that cam was for the older blocks. But I'm not sure why I thought that, or why there would be any difference on the cam. Distributor gear maybe?

There are 2 dowel pin options. Call Lingenfelter for details now because they are running a clearence special on these cams. :cheers:

Jeff, I used the Hot Cam in my LT4/383 because I knew it would get me past emissions testing. The performance is excellent. I know a lot of people running this cam and I've never heard anyone complain. I liked it so much, I bought another for my 350 :D :flag

I would not run LPE219 on 383LT1. I ran that cam on 350LT1 car pull ok. Not as aggrressive as the hot cam.

Thanks guys. Although I have some responses that say the hot cam is great, and others that say it isn't enough for a 383. I don't have enough cam experience to know if the extra 2 degrees of duration and .019 of lift that the CC305 cam gives over the hot cam will even be noticible. The LSA is different too. If not, then hot cam it is (because it is cheaper and a GM part). If there would be a noticible difference in power with the comp cam, then is it worth about $70 more?

The CC 305 is a good cam for a stroker. Vette92 had this cam in his 396 and
dyno'd around 394/415. The Hot Cam will probably be around 380-385 in a 383. Power curves will be similar with Hot Cam dropping off a little sooner. Torque is what its all about in a stroker.

Like the Xtreme Energy 230/236 in my 396. Had to add more fuel down low to get the torque curve to come on sooner and take away some up top. This cam pulls another 30-35 HP/TQ at 6200 over the smaller cams.
