Default Best street tire for the drags?

Sometime next year I will get rid of my GSC's once and forever.

So, I want a good all around perf. tire for the drags and autocross/roadracing, but that would last 20k mi in ordinary street driving.

What do you all like? I'm concerned with dry traction, not wet.

I'm thinking: BF KD, Mich. Pilot sport, GY F1 supercar, GY D3

GY F1 supercar, GY D3
The supercar is slightly better in the dry than the D3 and vice versa. Both are excellent.

Default Best street tire for the drags?

My Kumho's impressed me this past weekend. They we're hooked nicely 1.95 60' behind a 440 hp engine.

They're the ecsta supra's. 275 35 18's.

The mx's are much more sticky than the 712's.

If you decide to go with the Firestone's give me a shout, as I sell tires locally and through E-bay, I should be able to make you a good deal on a set of them, here's a link to a website I advertise on. http://www.goin-on.com/Campbell%20Tire.htm
Check it out, if I can help ya, I'd be glad to, if I can't you're not out anything!

I've had the best luck with Michelin Pilot XGT Z4's but I don't think you can get them anymore. I now have the Pilot Sport which will last long and give good grip.
I still think you'd be better off buying a 2nd set of rims and getting drag radials.

I would try Nitto's I've used them for quite a while now. They hook very well. for a drag radial they are hard to beat

My Firehawks are great all round tires, but I agree with Mojo on getting alternate rims and drag rubber.

I certainly am contiplating DR's, but...

1) Mad Mic who posts here and on C.actioncenter is getting 1.8, 1.9 60 ft s somehow out of an L98 on the Supercar's, I think. If I can get a street tire that good, why go to the trouble of DR's?

2). I'm kinda Lazy. I just don't see my self going home 2 extra hours early on a Wed. or Friday to change to DR's, then go to the track. And if I left the DR's on there, they'd be dead in a year (I do drive the vette 6-7 k per year average). Plus, if I left them on, I'd still have to change for autocross.

Thanks for all your replies,

I'll have to look in to the Firestone (should not have omitted),and the Kuhmo Exta(I know the 712 is not good enough).

Does anyone have actual track experience with the GY Supercar or D3? If they're very close, the D3's are cheaper and I can keep my front 8.5" rims.

I do with the D3s.

I've been able to get 1.9s out of my 315s on street nights at the track when there is NO prep and the freakin' imports drive right through the water dragging it up to the starting line. I haven't run them on a good track prep day yet.

I've seen Z06 drivers get high 1.7s on good track days with their Supercar tires.

I have had good luck with my Firestones - have won two autocross events and have had multiple 60' times in the 1.96 to 1.99 range.

I don't pretend to know if they are the best, but I am pleased considering they were on the car when I bought it.

I know they make XGT "H"-4s still, don't know about Z4s, the Hs are OK, but I wouldn't put them on a modified car, or one that sees a lot of track time. I had them on a '97 T/A, stock, auto, I ran 2.1-2.4 60' times all day long, but it wasn't very consistent, they were rather worn down as well. More of a halfway decent pilot that is a lot more affordable than the normal Pilot Sports :yesnod:

I'm needing tires REAL soon, I think I'm going to go with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-DC or whatever it is, I know there's something after the "GS," they're rated really really high on TireRack, plus they look good for a lot less than many other tires.
