Default Interesting CA Smog Check Test Results: I passed, WITHOUT PreCats

OK, well, I passed smog pretty clean...after the THIRD try. LoL, It's a funny story...
1st Time.) Went over and FORGOT my timing was bumped up to 8º advanced. Also, I left my aftermarket fan controller unhooked, so the car would be hot when it was tested...I failed with too high NOx
2nd Time.) Went over with my fan controller hooked up, but I accidently set my timing using the #7 spark plug wire, so I REALLY set my timing UP to 21º advanced. Failed MISERABLY with HIIIGH NOx.
3rd Time.) Got my timing set to 7º advanced, and passed just perfectly. I think if I woulda brought my timing down to 6º, I woulda passed with CLEANER results. But whatever works. The three different guys who tested it NEVER looked for the precats...although, the first guy was SURE looking where the precats USED to be...but he never said anything about them. I still don't know what the hell he was looking for/at.
So, for anyone who lives in CA and wants to swap to a PreCatLess front y-pipe...DO IT.
I passed with a PreCatLess Front Y/Random Tech Cat/Dynomax Rear Y-pipe/No Mufflers. :)

With the new Gov driving a Hummer....maybe there is some hope for smog tests too. :)

I'm sure Arnie has his head out of his butt but, unless his Rich Uncle (Sam that is) comes to the rescue, he will likely be too busy this term to get to smog related stuff.

Since the removing pre-cats and using a 3-stage main cat on the L98s is 49 state legal, I'm sure it would pass the snifffer in CA...only the visual might cause you to fail.

I fast passed with no pre-cats on the OH state test, but it's definitely not like the CA smog test. The big question that I have is how do the CA guys pass smog with heavy mods (without paying someone off at the testing center).

The Texas crew sure doesn't have this problem. :-)

The laws are so difficult to interpret, most of the smog centers cannot figure out what to do!

Thanks for the info bro. I have to SMOG my vette in Dec-Jan timeframe, so since that is so close, I am just going to wait, pass SMOG, then dump those damn pre-cats. Heck, I won't have to worry about it either way for 2 yrs after that. :)
PS- Is the resonance much deeper w/o the pre-cats? (I have a high-flow cat & flowmasters on).

Ron, I will have an answer to your question in a few months, I also live in Ca and I'm about to make some mods to my car ie. Alum heads, cam, 1.6 R/R, X-ram w/EGR, bored TB's, Custom chip. So I will find out. What I want to know is how come everyone has to get their car smogged evry two years and mine is every year at a test only place?

THAT I don't mind. I would seriously DONATE $75 every 2 years. It's just the damn smog TEST that's so stupid. Other states don't have it THIS stupid. They all say "If it passes clean out of the pipe, then you're good to go." Hopefully with the new Governator, Smog Check's will stay the same. (Cuz my car is now registered in Toulumne County ;))
