Mystery Plug?
I'm in the process of removing ALL of the now defunct antipolution poopie at front of engine;
question:
As per picture I just took, do you know what the function of the plug/socket circled does? Or is it safe to leave disconnected.
Also the bottom circled pipe; should I block it off or just leave it?
Cheers in anticipation!

Re: Mystery Plug? (smacko)
If I remember correctly from when I changed my water pump, that tube on the bottom goes to a air inlet filter looking thing, it is supposed to have a hose coming up from it which goes into the air pump assemblies. Does you Vette have the air pump still? If not, it is not doing anything anyway, so blocking it off does nothing. It's just a tube with an air filter on the end hehe
As far as the plug, Not too sure on that one :)

That is the Time Thermo Switch that controls your Cold Start Injector. If you no longer have a CSI hooked up you can leave it unplugged.

Re: Mystery Plug? (86Coupe)
Oh OK, If it went to air filter as in air intake, I could plump it to my former TB coolant line to air cool the TB! (I'll investigate further!) meantime, getting the metal pipes out sure is a bastard!
Oh I love the way if you use the word SH*& (poopie) on here it converts it to 'poopie' LOL
PS; I like your vette!

Re: Mystery Plug? (smacko)
Why are you removing it?
Is the air too clean for you? Think of your children or the rest of us. The Z06 makes 405HP and conforms to all clean air standards. No smog stuff doesn't mean more horsepower necessarily. Or are you just too cheap to keep your vette running the way it's suppose to?
Another sorry poluter.

I guess the air is just too clean for me too.
Did you know that cattle produce more harmful gasses than automobiles?

Pollution in and of itself isn't much of a problem. It's when the concentration of pollutants in an area exceeds a certain amount, it begins to affect life (plants, animals, us).
If you're in an area that doesn't have emissions inspections, you live in a fairly pollution free area.
I would be more concerned about resale value and future liability if emissions testing becomes a requirement in your area. What are you going to do when you need to put all this crap back on in order to register your car? Whatever you do - don't throw it all in the trash. Take pictures of how it's supposed to go back together and put all the parts in a bin. Leave it on the shelf and give it to the next guy when you sell it.

YOU'RE AN IDIOT!
Anti-polution 'poopie' (I'll save the forum from automatically changing my real word) uses MORE fuel to run it; therefore...SURPRISE! : More fuel=MORE POLUTION!!!
Go see what you can find about NEW WORLD ORDER...
CAT convertors I have it from a VERY good source, last only about
40 000kms then they're useless. Do a chemical analysis between 'regular' fuel and 'unleaded (or lead free) fuel. How do your kids like breathing polymers etc?
Instead of targeting me for a question I asked about a SWITCH; target the world governments who KNOW there IS a cure for cancer AND the 3 types of alcohol that cause it;
Butyl, wood, and isopropyl.
GUESS what the recycled containers YOU drink out of are washed in during their manufacture? (SEE ABOVE) AND they don't rinse them after...
Go back to your booze mate, and when you're sober in 2008 look into what
I've said here.
My sincerest appologies to other users, but one must wonder WHY this fella even DRIVES a V8 and not a tiny *** box that only uses a cup of fuel per year!

Re: Mystery Plug? (mitchcole)
Almost ALL of the stuff left over after removing the anti pollution gear on the C4. (CAT Convertors STILL there, for now)
Will send it to BIG J; maybe he can wave it 'round and clean up his own act?

What a whiner!
I've stripped all the "environmentally sensative equipment" off my engine as well! And I was smiling when I did it! :reddevil
Someone really should speak to those nasty volcanoes around the world for spewing noxious fumes without proper exhaust equipment! And while you're at it see about stopping the oceans from evaporating and releasing CFC's into the atmosphere!
As for resale value? Who cares? It's a Vette...it'll sell! Let the fella that buys it worry about it... :seeya
just my .02
Okay... .04 I'll take a well tuned Vette over Joe Everybody's grocery getter anyday! Any fella that's gonna wrench on his car is gonna have a more consistently well tuned engine than a fella that bought his vette for style points and never opens his hood. Sure, he's got all of his smog equipment but what good is it if the O2 is shot and the cats are used up, and the plugs are worn, and the timing has erroded...he's got the equipment but to cheap to keep maintained.
stepping off of soap box now...geez; liberals...wait...I stumbled :flag

im not getting into this debate :D but as a biology major at ASU (im also in the honors college) i can say smako is right about most of that cancer, alcohols, and the CATS going bad stuff.
btw, if you are gonna polute the air that i breathe at least do it right :D mod it tell you got flames coming out the back end :mad

Re: Mystery Plug? (mistaben)
Nothing like a good debate with half truths and pseudo facts.
In Texas they do a tailpipe test that will definitely tell if the cats are functional. Maybe they do go bad at some mileage, but my 95 with 80K miles and the original cats passed the test. So have several other cars with over 70K miles that I have owned. Less efficient-- probably. Useless-- I doubt it.
If the issue is WOT power, then EGR and AIR are irrelevant. Most independent studies show that high flow cats lose about 5 hp at the 500 hp lever. One percent!!
If the issue is driveability at part throttle, then early Vette smog controls do cost something. By 96, the LT4 had no EGR and AIR that only functions during warmup. It meets all emission standards. Maybe that is the standard we should be seeking.
As to the cancer comments, I think an oncologist (cancer specialist) would split a gut laughing at the oversimplistic distortion of the statements. Cigarettes and urban air pollution account for the vast majority of the lung cancers, which is what clean air efforts are targeting. The other big cancers (breast, colon, prostate and leukemia/lymphoma) are pretty well independent of air pollution.

As for the second; refer to my reply to BIGJIM re N.W.O. etc.
Which is why your oncologist would be laughing; because many speciallists could not deal with how simple it is to avoid a lot of these cancers.
Quote from a good friend who cured himself of colon cancer as well as other people; keep your colon in good health and the rest falls into place AND Cancer cannot live in an alkaline environment.
Now, I shall not continue this discussion in this post only because I think it's irrelevant to MY MYSTERY SWITCH! Perhaps in a general discussion forum?
Anyway, I'll leave you with this thought (Investigate it!); there is NO (usable) calcium in milk. seek out and justify your sceptisism.
Thanks for your response.

Re: Mystery Plug? (smacko)
Did the Greanpeace forum go down? Get lost guys.
Don't preach about saving the planet while driving a 250+ hp vette. And don't tell me that it doesn't pollute much and doesn't waste much gas... because it still pollutes more and wastes more gas than a Honda of the same price.
:nopity Save the world: Kill yourself. :nopity
EDIT:
BigJim, can you IM me your address? I have some extra smog parts to send you... :D
