You can shoehorn a BBC in there if you want. Dont even think about putting the stock TPI back on it though. It'd be similar to running a mile and then breathing thru a straw.

Transmission will blow within a couple weeks with that much torque.

You may want stiffer springs to compensate for the added weight in the front.

I disagree!!

It would be like running the mile WHILE breathing through the straw!

Its not like he could even try to unless he just wanted to toss it up there inside the lifter valley like a centerpiece or soemthing.

Sounds like you are contemplating this swap, not actually starting it.
Figure the $7500 for the Merlin to be just the beginning. I'm thinking you should budget at least twice that for the project, maybe three times that amount.
You won't believe the custom fabrication/electrical/etc that will be involved and, merely by asking the question you've indicated you don't have the experience to do it yourself.
Good fabricators don't come cheap.
That said.....DO IT!

There alot you can do to beef up the 700r4 to meet a mild big block. Go to http://www.transmissioncenter.net/700MegaRaptor.htm. Of course most of our F-body cousing will swear by old faithful (Turbo 400 - 3 speed auto).

Why not just go with a stroked SC small block 400? Still seems like a heck of a lot less work with probably better performance. Then if you are STILL not satisfied, spray it.
