Default Can't pull a code?

Recently my car has been running rough, it has a rough idle and after accelerating and you let of the gas and just cruise, the rpms go up and down. It can't hold a steedy rpm when not on the gas. I get a check engine light if I drive it for more then 30 mins, but when I go to use the OTC scan tool, it doesn't read a connection? It says make sure the key is on, which it is, so it has to be a bad connection somewhere? I have a pathfinder 94 chip in, so that works fine. I don't understand why it cant read the computer and find the code? I am fed up with this car and its deffinitly time to sell it, I just need to get it running right first! Thanks for any help guy guys can offer. :banghead:

Just realized this isn't in scan and tune, oops! Time to copy and paste.

Try the old paper clip across pins A & B and count SES flashes.

:iagree: or short A and G and use the digital portion of the dash to report codes.
