Default 85 acts "flooded"

85 L98 cranks and cranks and finally starts with a lot of black smoke. Idles and runs fine after starting. Does this hot or cold. I suspect stuck cold start valve. Any other ideas? Is this a job a weekend mechanic can tackle?

Welcome.....Are you getting a check engine light? TPS sounds like the first place to start looking...

No Check Engine Light before. Changed TPS; can only get voltage adjusted to .67 instead of .54 volts. Now I'm getting Check Engine Light. Too late here to continue work; will resume tomorrow.

.54v is optimum TPS specs with a tolerance of .075+/-, so .62 is the max closed voltage.

If you can't adjust the TPS far enough to get inside that window take a small round file (available just about anywhere tools are sold) or a 5/16 drill bit and open up mounting screw holes in the switch. Make sure there are no obstructions when mounting the switch to the TB and that the pick-up lever is mated to the throttle lever flush.

Have fun! :seeya
