Good Economy Brake Rotors?
I need to replace the front brakes, including rotors, on my 94 before I take it for a run through the "Tail of the Dragon" in September. My problem is, I don't want ot put a fortune into it that I can't get back when I trade up to a C5 next year. Anybody out there with any good recommendations on a decent set of rotors that are relatively inexpensive, and where to get them?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Dave

Whatever the tail of the dragon is. Anyway, original quality rotors are available thru most any auto parts chain store. They are between $50 and $100 each, depending upon whether you have heavy duty 13" J55 setup or the little standard one's. We're talking Auto Zone, Advance Auto, Pep Boys etc. The pads are the same and go for between $20 and $50 for the front.

make sure they don't give you Chinese I know a guy who went to Pep Boys and was charge 120 for 30 Chinese rotors. This was part of an installed brake job.

If you go to Pep Boys you get 2 or 3 choices in brake parts. They sell el-cheapo parts that aren't even worth your trouble installing. There is a middle-of-the-road that competes with the other popular parts stores. They're usually like Bendix. Then the last, expensive choice is Raybestos.
Napa and Carquest also carry Raybestos but under their names.
I just got Raybestos rotors for the front. $100/ea. Pads are about $140 for the front. You could get Bendix for about half that price.

You can get Brembo Replacement Rotors for $53 each at TireRack.
My son bought a set (for the rear - $50ea) when he did is GS upgrade in the front - the finish was great - fit was perfect.

Remember to consider what your car might look like if the brakes don't stop you while you're getting whipped by the "Tail of the Dragon"
It will probably be a lot more expensive and inconvenient to fix damage from a wreck.
I'm not suggesting you go all-out on a brake system, but get good quality... brakes are critical... right above tires in terms of what's going to keep you on the road (I know that you know that... it just seemed like a good thing to say as a "reminder").

Thanks, everybody, for the input! And I will definitely not put myself or my car at risk through my brakes. At the very least, I will go with the original GM quality rotors and pads, but probably a little better than that.
Again, thanks a lot! As usual, this is THE PLACE for Corvette advice and inof!!

I put on replacement rotors from NAPA. Not really cheap either.
