Adding Waterwetter - KISS
OK, before I add the stuff, I have to drain some of the coolant beforehand. Should I just siphon the appropriate amount of coolant out of the overflow tank and then pour the Waterwetter in thereor should I add add it by removing the radiator cap. Does it even matter which way?

pull the rad cap... do it cold. It will mix better.
Use a turkey baster to suck a few oz out... easier than using the drain!

And don't add it too the overflow resevior, it may never make it into the system and provide the benefit you seek.

When you pull up the antifreeze with the turkey baster, the antifreeze from the block quickly comes forward and fills the radiator. You have to be prepared for this and go really fast. I eventually wanted to flush the system anyway and replace the thermostat, so I waited until then to add the waterwetter.
Good luck,

dont know if all radiators are like mine or if mine is even original but on mine if you open the cap you can insert a garden hose or similar size tubing all the way to the bottom of the unit. This way you can empty the whole radiator without using the plug or unhooking the bottom hose.

It's something you add to your coolant that helps to lower your engine's operating temperature (see http://www.redlineoil.com/redlineoil/wwti.htm)

Thanks for reminding me. I'll get that done first...

If you're having a shop do the flush make sure they flush the block as well...draining just the radiator, flushing and refilling is fine for a quickie job but not the real deal...my mechanic gave me a bottle of Prestone flush and had me run it in the system for a weekend...then he got the car and drained it, including the block, and it took him four times refilling the system and draining it till it finally ran clear...then he put a 50/50 mix in... good luck

In my opinion, as a minimum you should flush the system and add new fluids to the system, not just add waterwetter.
By the way, you get max cooling benefit when used with pure H2O rather than with a 50/50 mix.

Living in Florida, I'd do it, too but couldn't that be used as an excuse by the warranty company in the event something cooling related happenned?

Re: Adding Waterwetter - KISS (ld85)
I would run at least 25 - 30% antifreeze just to lube the waterpump and to hinder any rusting in the cooling system. Just my .02 .

Re: Adding Waterwetter - KISS (cdnguyred88)
I haven't gone to the Redline site lately, but if my memory recalls correctly, they talk about how Water Wetter helps prevent corrosion. I corresponded by email with them and they recommended I use straight distilled water and Water Wetter in the summer, and a ~25% antifreeze solution in the winter because it gets COLD here. They never said anything about needing any antifreeze in the summer. I saw a post the other day saying your heater core could actually freeze in the summer when running the a/c. That seems pretty incredible to me. Does anybody have any real world experience with that, as opposed to speculation?

Re: Adding Waterwetter - KISS (DiabolicalDave)
I can not seem to find water wetter in any of the local auto supply stores. Just how does one purchase this product and what is the approximate cost?

Re: Adding Waterwetter - KISS (DiabolicalDave)
I would recommend running antifreeze (also works as antiboil) with this stuff. This forum is chalk full off people running LT1's that are pushing 220*,240*, I've even seen some guys talking about hitting 260 degrees.Without antifreeze I'm sure you would be boiling over at these temps.Water wetter is decent but your biggest improvement comes from low temp thermostat, and kicking the fans on early. My .02 :chevy

Re: Adding Waterwetter - KISS (Frank Zeman)
I got the phone number of Red Line from a national hi perf magazine. They gave me the no of the local distributor, who gave me the name of a retailer. MY closest seller is a motorcycle shop. It comes in a 10-12 oz. bottle and costs $8.00-$10.00 a bottle. One bottle is enough.
My local track does NOT allow antifreeze in their Summit ET Series racer's cars. I run water and Water Wetter in the summer and 50/50 antifreeze w/Water Wetter, after race season. MY problem, is that with a 160 t'stat, I have trouble getting to 180* @ 70 mph, even on a 100*+ day. I don't think this is hot enough. Good luck, and...
RACE ON!!!
[Edit] PS. This is with the origional 20 year, old factory, radiator.
