Class action lawsuit against GM about Dexcool
Go to http://www.10tv.com/consumer10/consumerhome.php and watch the piece on 'Coolant Concerns'.
I'm not running it in my 94 and after seeing this I don't think I want to take a chance with it. :nono:
Just an FYI. :flag

Re: Class action lawsuit against GM about Dexcool (Rifleman)
My vette drained as clean as fresh coolaid (pun intended) when I replaced with new dexcool at 5 year interval. Maybe the vette does not experience the problem. I will keep a close eye on it, though. Appreciate the link!

I think there is a vital piece missing from that story. If you mix the two antifreeze solutions, that's what happens. I'd bet people added the green stuff to the dexcool because they thought they were low or something. Once you mix the two, it begins to acidize and break down the metals. I saw it on my sister in law's Sebring. Someone had added ethelyne glycol to the "long life" stuff and it was mud! It took 2 hours of flushing to get the first round of crap out then two more flushings a couple of weeks later.
Don't mix the two!! It clearly states that in the owners manual. :yesnod:

I am switching to green anyhow... Last year I flushed and put brand new dexcool in and the begining of this year it looks like sludge. and I flushed several times last year.

Hmmmm, mine looks terrible also. It has had only dexcool/distilled water mix. The original stuff came out clear. What causes the nasty looking stuff?
Not necessarily acidic solution I hope.....

Sounds like another red-diaper-doper-baby lawsuit, if you ask me! :nonod:

This just proves that anyone can/will sue anyone else for anything at all.....
and the only people to come out on top are the low-life, scum-ball, morals-less lawyers.
I hate 'em with a passion.

Re: Class action lawsuit against GM about Dexcool (crheinish)
The main problem I have seen that causes this problem is low coolant levels. If the coolant levels are maintained there isn't any corrosion and the ensuing sludge that forms inside the cooling systems. For some reason when the coolant levels go down there is air entrainment in the sytem and thats when the corrosion starts.
Obviously there is a link to Dex Col that causes this be it some kind of chemical reaction caused by air entrainment and the metalurgy in the engine and cooling system or something else. Because with the green stuff you can run the fluid levels low and the only thing that would happen is that you would overheat your engine of the levels was low enough.
I have used Dex-Cool for years in my GM trucks and have never had a problem with it. But I keep close tabs on all of my fluid levels.

The problem I see here is that I would imagine that any sort of settlement will only apply to the original purchaser of the vehicle. That leave out a whole lot of C4 owners.
Other than that, there is one very short technical bulletin available on the GM service knowledge base about Dexcool, and all it says is that Dexcool cars should only ever receive dexcool during servicing, because undesired effects may result.

Hello, did any of these IDIOTS ever flush any vehicle with multiple-metal engine components? Anit-freeze masquerading as mud is as old as the hills. Like a smoker complaining about lung problems. :smash:

Scumbag lawyers strike again. All these suits just drive up the costs of goods to hard working folks while jerks like John Edwards run for president.

Re: Class action lawsuit against GM about Dexcool (silver & red CE)
I do coolant flushes about every day at work in one way, shape or form. It only causes problems when you mix the red and green. Otherwise its not bad, just keep an eye on the fluid levels.
