LT1 intake on my L98
Big improvement over my ported and siamesed tpi. I actually have more torque with the lt1, pulls smoothly from under 1000rpm. I can take off at idle slowly letting the clutch out, just like the stock tpi but no more of the chugging at low speed. It would stall before without revving it to about 1100. Low end feels real strong then really starts to pull at 3000 to about 5200. Its running lean right now with the 22lb injectors and stock FPR, I'm gonna swap in the 24lb'ers and then an AFPR. Definately need more fuel with all the air it's getting now :yesnod:
It was a fairly easy swap just did everthing on http://www.lt1intake.com/ also got the dist spacer and t-stat housing from John. I also milled down and filled the EGR so I could keep my large dist, it clears by about a 1/4". It would have been alot easier if I would have had late model heads PITA with the early style bolt angle.
The clamps are temporary , I'm making brackets and will clean and detail later. I just wanted to test everything first. So far 2 weeks and about 300 miles no problems or leaks  No cooling issues either, I was a lil worried about the remote set up.
I'm very happy with it so far and best of all I've got under $300 total in it :yesnod: Hope to get to the drag strip next month to get it tuned.

Glad you are happy with the conversion. It sounds like your TPI had some serious problems. I Guess the intake conversion could have gotten rid of any vacuum leaks or other potential causes for the symptoms you describe.

Ive been waiting a long time to see these kind of pics and result and I have to say its a fantastic job!!! It looks good and I know you need to do a little cleaning up and etc but you were able to test this out and show its promise.
I had thought about the LT1 intake conversion a while back when it was a rave at the thirdgen.org but was unsure if this was a good swap. The Miniram from TPIS is 900 bones plus the rails and etc and was way too expensive.Maybe this is the ticket I need.
Thanks for posting the results and hope it is everything you want it to be.

Re: LT1 intake on my L98 (BOBA VETT)
A few questions I wanted to ask....what year is the LT1 intake? I noticed the fuel rail/hoses come out on the drivers side.Is this the 94+ years?
I know they said the 92-93 intakes werent ideal.Ive seen some on Ebay and other places before claiming to be 94 and up but the fuel lines seem to have come out on the rear passenger side.I wanted to know what year worked and if you were able to keep the stock size distributor(it looks like you were able to) or did you swap for a smaller unit with a top coil?
EDIT: I just remembered you said you milled down the egr are to reuse the stock distributor.ANyways, how much material was needed to remove?Just wondering and what did you seal the EGR holes with?
Thanks!
:)

Its a 95 f-body intake their fuel lines exit to the drivers side, vette to the pass side. The 92-93 wont work due to lack of front fuel rail cross over. You need a 94 up. I got mine off ebay complete with fuel rails injectors & tb for $150. I cut the egr down to the hight of the lower one. you can kinda see it in the last pic. Then just filled the holes with JB weld.

Looks great! I'm glad someone finally shared this with the forum. Those finned valvecovers really look great with the LT1 intake.
I've got all the parts for this swap but haven't gone thru with it yet. I like where you mounted the remote thermostat. Hose routing is pretty creative too. Did you just clamp the hoses onto the factory fuel lines on the front of the engine?
Bill: The EGR valve and etc at the back of the plenum is cast into the manifold but it's all external. The EGR doesn't flow into the plenum there. The person that had my manifold before me just ground all the EGR stuff off the back. There's nothing that technically has to be plugged.

Re: LT1 intake on my L98 (BOBA VETT)
Any guess or dyno results on the HP torque gains? This seems like a easy swap to do. I would have someone else prep the intake tho.
I am looking to just do bolt on's on my car ATM. Is this something worth doing or should I worry about heads/cam first. Intake seems like a cheap mod just wonder if it is worth the effort on a stock L98.

Re: LT1 intake on my L98 (jmr302)
Thanks, it will look better when I get the mounts and clean it up. I just clamped the fuel lines over the stock ones for now. I wanted to be able to change it back easily if I had any problems. Gona get some nice braided lines eventually.
The EGR feeds into the plenum just behind the TB bores, I had to fill these with epoxy. Also something I found out was that you have to block off the EGR ports in the heads, the intake dosn't cover them all the way. That was the only real suprise.
Power is like the Mini Ram but with better flow from what I've heard. I know I get alot more rubber when I hit 2nd :steering:
John at http://www.lt1intake.com/ sells completed intakes for around $400. Or can do one you supply for $200.
I want to get some times before I do anything else. A cam is really gonna wake it up though!

Re: LT1 intake on my L98 (BOBA VETT)
About the EGR ports in the head, good thing Late 86 and later years aluminum heads dont have them due to external egr passage from the exhaust manifold.Just wanted to mention this for those who have 86 and later L98's.
If finances go well for me,then the car gets painted and stays and ill do the LT1 intake later.I already have 3.73 gears and wanted a 2600-2800 stall and the ideal intake was a SR or MR.This LT1 mod is far cheaper despite a few water/coolant routing add ons one must do but looks well worth it.

Re: LT1 intake on my L98 (BOBA VETT)
BOBO VETT have you done any other mods to take advantage of the intake? Or is your L98 pretty much stock?
Still wondering if this would be a upgrade on a stock 86 w/cast iron heads.

Only mods are 160 T-stat TB bypass and no air pump or pullution stuff. I wanted to get some comparison data before I do any other mods.

Re: LT1 intake on my L98 (OleDog)
I'm almost done with my LT1 swap:) I'm taking my time to paint it a nice bright alm color, and i cut off the EGR set up off the back completely to run the stock internal coil dist... and avoid running the external F body dist. I agree the LT1 set up will work way better. Some people on here said it will suck and won't even pull till 3,000RPM. They also compared it to a Turbo 4cyl power band...... KUDOS man! I'm right behind ya.... i'll be done in about 1 week.

Re: LT1 intake on my L98 (Fast_vette89)
Hey BOBA VETTE and Fast_Vette 89,
If you have a minute I got a few questions:
Did you have to do anything special to hook up the throttle linkage and stuff on the side?
Any leaks at the distributor?
Any other problem areas??
I have an 87 and am real interested in this conversion. BTW BOBA VETTE, yours looks like a nice job! Congrats!
