Got to take the new 434 to the local dragstrip today.
I just got the new chips from the formatos last week so i thought i would go to the drag strip to try them out. They sent me a adapter which made changing chips very easy and quick.I made the first pass with the old chip from the last engine that they had made for me. its the one that i just dynoed the car with three weeks ago, and made 485 rear wheel horsepower.Keep in mind that i drove the car there with the full exhaust on the car which is only 2-1/2" duel pipes to the rear ,And I had the stock rims on the car with 315 drag radials on the rear.Getting traction with the 6-speed was very hard to get.So i would leave the line at about 1500 rpm and just slip the clutch until i was moving then roll on the throttle thru first and then get on it thru the rest of the gears. The engine now has about 400 miles on it.
The first pass with the old chip
60' 1.865
330 5.023
1/8 7.601
mph 96.89
1000 9.800
1/4 11.641
mph 121.13
first new chip #2
60' 1.749
330 4.850
1/8 7.452
mph 96.27
1000 9.677
1/4 11.532
mph 119.63
chip # 3
60' 1.776
330 4.811
1/8 7.337
mph 96.69
1000 9.512
1/4 11.321
mph 127.12
chip # 4
60' 1.713
330 4.779
1/8 7.330
mph 95.69
1000 9.528
1/4 11.358
mph 125.62
new chip #5
60' 1.716
330 4.783
1/8 7.338
mph 95.57
1000 9.538
1/4 11.367
mph 125.59
I had let the tire pressure down to 14 pounds to get any kind of traction. The car really comes on at about 3500 rpm it feels as if i was running nitrous but im not ready to do that yet thats why i have this new moter in the first place. After the fifth run it started to rain so i never got a chance to run the 3rd chip to see if i still got the mph as last time.SO i just drove home with the 3rd chip in.I was suprised to have every chip start right up and idle perfectly.I think i'm going to go back to the dyno with the third chip and try to fine tune it a bit more.

127 MPH is super. Get that car to 60' and your looking at high 10's

Damn cool man, damn cool. You've got to be the most CID SBC on the forum. Glad to hear Formato dialing you in. Eileen and son have been good with me too.
Other than timeslips, are you data-logging?
What where meteorological conditions at the time? Which track?
Awesome job you're doing there. Keep us posted with juicy details :D
(for anyone interested, Formato's is www.fasterproms.com)

I haven't figured out how to data-log yet, I down loaded datamaster, and two other programs but i haven't been able to get them to hook up to the car yet. I bought the cable, but it wont recognize my car computer.
As for the meteorological condition at the track, i'm not sure what that means. I'm trying to learn more about this stuff. On the time slips it says absolute barometer 31.37. Is that what you were talking about? The local track for me is the woodburn dragstrip in oregon. I haven't had a chance to go to P.I.R yet, but i will get there soon. Im wanting to try this car out on a road course, but i only have the stock brakes on it. At the dragstrip i noticed that it was pretty tough slowing down to make the second turnout at that speed. So i want to get some bigger brakes on it. I already have 17 x 12 rear rims and 11.5 x 17 front rims set up for auto-crossing which i also enjoy doing.

Its a dart block with a 4" stroke and 30 over 6" rods.
Okay...WHICH Dart block? :D Inquiring minds want to know...when we see "434" numbers attached to a small block, we're all perky, ayup...

Sounds like a sweet setup. I'll add my name to the list of people curious about your setup as I plan on building something of a similar capacity in the next year or two.
Awesome numbers there. :yesnod:

Re: Got to take the new 434 to the local dragstrip today. (Matt Black)
To start with i bought a complete internally balanced 434 stroker kit from competition products with there dart little m block.I had them do everything so the block would be ready to assemble when it got to me.This block is good for 454 cubic inches but i didn't know how much flow the miniram setup was good for, So for this first motor i decided to go with a 434 here is the link http://www.competitionproducts.com/page92.html
I had everything rechecked by a local engine builder and most of the kit was pretty close as far as being balanced and ready to be put together. So i paid twice for everything as far as balanceing and clearanceing goes the engine builder would not put together something he did not balance and check himself. He put together the short block for me.The cam is a small basecircle solid roller cam 647/647lift with 252/260@50 on a 114 center. The head were 210 A.F.R race heads 2.08/1.625 valves that i had ported and polished. They flowed 287 @625 lift intake and i dont remeber the exhaust numbers i think it was around 210.

Freakin Awesome MPH dude! That is way good enough for a 10sec pass.
Nothing like these 400+ engines huh?
THat is funny though looking at your MPH for the 1/8th. They are nearly the same as ours, yet your 1/4 MPH is much higher. This again leads me to believe that I may be out of injector and since the latter part of the track is in 3rd gear, its having much more of an effect. Thanks for the posting. Keep us all posted. You still running a dana 44? What gears? You shouldn't have anything more than 3.07s. If you can get your 60' times down where mine are you are easily 10 sec car. Or sitting right there knocking on 10s door with the rest of us scrappers. But your MPH says you will be there before us.
Good job!
Jesse

Yes i am still running with the dana 44's.I have blow up my 308 gears,my 409 gears ,and now i have 3.73 gears .These seem to be the best gears for me right now because i'm in fourth gear at about 6600 at the end of the 1/4 .My last engine in the car was a 409 and it was very hard on things like drive lines, rear ends, clutches, ect. The last engine gave me 4 years of weekend raceing and was great right up to the point where i tryed nos on it one weekend trying to get that magic 10.9999 or better it never happened and i spun a main bearing trying. So of course i couldn't just fix it and if i was going to pull the motor out again it was going to be BIGGER and hopefully faster.

Congrats on the great numbers. I know what you mean about the 4.09 gears blowing up. I broke the spiders in mine after 1 pass on my new setup. Still trying to get up the nerve to go back at it again. Looks like you have the same problem I have had, either a slow 60' or a broken car. Good luck with your setup

WOW, that is sweet. Nothing like pushing that "small block" line further into big block territory.
