Ok I need some serious help here, I have posted several questions about what I should do about my bad engine in my 1984 corvette. I think i finally found the solution, I found a guy to rebuild me a engine with 10-1 compression with a little bigger cam, Edlebrock intake and a demon Carb., and getting rid of the Crossfire. Is this a good idea, and how much HP will I have? I started with 205 I hope to gain a big jump BUT keeping my car street drivable and being able to drive it every day. I also get I think a 1 year or 3 year waranty on the engine. I am paying a guy 200 to drop it and take out the old. How much HP will I have and what do u think my 1/4 times will be and is this a great dession? Please give me ur input thanks.

You can do it. You'll lose some of the numbers on your digital dash, like range, and the fuel mpg averaging.

Of course it is possible. It is likely to provide substantial power gains, too. He is going to install for $200.00. Who is going to adapt the car to carb? You will need a pre-computer HEI or other, different distributor. A way to drop the fuel pressure to carb levels. And a bunch of plumbing and linkage adaptations to complete the change over. Fuel economy will certainly drop. And will it pass a smog test? Market value? If you're building a race car, it is an economical, if unsophisicated way to go. Even THIS old fart realizes the benefits of modern technology. I suggest you think carefully before you commit to this plan of action. Good luck, and...

Yes it is very possible. Mine has been converted to carb for several years of enjoyment. You can pass emissions with a carb but you have to have a mild set up and be a good carb tuner. It took me a year to decide to change over because of messing up a "stock" corvette, But this is MY toy. Enough of that

Holley sells an inexpensive fuel pressure regulator ~20$ to set your fuel press, at ~6# for a carb. You don't need to reuse the fuel return line. Just plug this line

You will need some kind of non computer controled distributer, whether its after market or older HEI

The only thing you lose on your dash is the MPG counter

I know it sounds great......but as for me I would just leave it alone, and rework my CrossFire set-up...

Yer....I'd leave it alone, personally.
I thought about changing my 84 to carb, but it ain't as cheap or easy as you first think. Plus the problems of emissions, economy, reliability, carbs go out of tune and holleys tend to leak.
I reworked the cross-fire to good effect, why not look into doing that instead.
Don't believe all the cr*p said about them, they can be made to go.

Thanks every one for your help, I think doing this will be out of my price range. I talked to a guy today I am going to get a new never used 350 for 1200. It comes with a sheet that tells all its stats and info all i need to ad is intake and pullys and stuff. I dont know how many HP it will have but I am hoping atleast 275. I think its a factory GM motor i am not sure I am ordering it through AUTO ZONE. I would love to get rid of my Crossfire is there any way i can do that without going to carb If so let me know and once again thanks.

YES! Two ways. First: $$$$$$$$$$$$$ Second: Trade cars.

Don't get sucked into a TPI conversion. It can get involved ($$$): computer, wiring harnesses, etc. It can run into money. And it isn't THAT much better than the Crossfire. Like any other modification, after you figure what it will cost...double it. Then add 10% as a contigency. Good luck, and...
