I've always though, there is quite a few common "problems" with C4's that people have, but that can be quite easy to fix!

I'm curious, whats some of the common ones that people have had, that if they could, tell other people about, becuase it was so easy, and you did it yourself.

Somethings i can think of.

Lots of problems are "easy" to fix if you have the proper tools and knowledge, for example:
-fuel pump
-rotors & pads
-wiper alignment
-sensors
-water pump
-horns & lights
-EGR system
-vacuum leaks
-coolant & oil leaks

Oh and, yes Brian, lack of power.

Of the many I did my first corvette year, the one I remember as being easy (and successful!) was the headlight bushing fix. Easy and cheap and it worked!

Probably the easiest fix on the c4 is changing the weatherstrip on the tops of the wheel wells. I challenge anyone to find a true "easier fix". :D

What are those two? What are the symptoms?

Here's what I can think of:

- console lid vinyl coming loose on the hinge side making it bind when try to open (what's a good flexible and durable adhesive to fix it with?)

- Dash cover wanting to peel up where it meets windshield (hard to get at!)

- Weather seals cracking/tearing (what's a good flexible and durable adhesive to repair them with?)

- Cheap GM leather on the seats likes to show wear easily (good leather repair kit here: http://www.leatherrepairkits.com )

- C4 radiators get dirty easily (C4's are like Hoovers on the road)

- Not-so-bright factory OEM headlights (Sylvania SliverStars are the best upgrade for the money)

- Rear fascia attracts road dust, brake dust, exhaust carbon dust like a magnet (Extended muffler tips help reduce exhaust carbon, dustless brake pads reduce brakd dust, but road dust-- can't do nothin' about it)

- Lower fender behind wheels takes it on the chin-- gets splashed with junk and accumulates brake dust too (could put those Vette mudflaps on but some think they detract from Vette's appearance)

- 700R4/4L60/4L60E ain't the most robust tranny ever made but not much we can do about that)

- High coolant temperatures (220+) in summer in traffic (fan programming or flip on the a/c to turn on radiator fans)

- Difficulty of finding plug wire looms to fit 8.5mm spark plug wires, at least ones that will go in the same location OEM looms are installed)

- The C4 Lean... suspension (driver side often sits 1/2" or less lower than passenger side (nothing reasonable we can do about it)

Probably not for the tech forum but a few months ago someone posted a fix for floppy sun visors. The fix involved a coat hanger with ends coated in plastic coat, thats all I remember. Someone suggested the writer put it in the tech tips section. I have not found it in the forum search, anyone remember more of this?

They've got to be one of the first things that fail and are sooooo easy (and cheap) to fix!

Pulled-away passenger side grab handle.

Door outer glass weatherstrip and anti-rattle pads

Floppy door panels

Door pin switches

Sagging doors

Clogged gas drain boot

And I've discovered that the tilt column repair is actually pretty darn easy if you have another car to drive while you fix your column. That is, it's easy if you use scavenged parts rather than try to repair the original parts...

My vert used to have a driver front area rattle, but after I did my brakes the rattle is now gone. Musta been the calipers or something.

My 'vert is rattle free and tight top-down, but put the top up and the rubber seal lip for the roof that mashes onto the rear deck squeaks and carries on over bumps quite a bit. :yesnod:

It happened to me.

Be sure and pull the top radiator shroud off about once a year and clean the debris that collects between the A/C condensor and the radiator. Nobody told me, not any Corvette Service Manual I've ever read. This debis can over heat your engine and blow the head gaskets. I know!

You don't have to neccessarily do that.....the radiator and condenser cover has a large enough opening on the right hand side, where the a/c lines enter, to insert a vacuum cleaner extension tube with a nozzle to clean the area out just fine.....at least on my 96 that works like a charm...
