Default Heater slide

Hi everyone. I am excited to be able to talk to others. I am just now starting to repair some items i'm sure you are pretty bored with. LOL
My first problem is my heater control slide on my 1987 C4. I have the stereo out and was replacing electrical tape with wire connectors. When I got done and replaced everything I found that the heater control slide (NOT the temp, but the actual control slide for the heat/Ac/defrost etc) won't move from the off position. Is there a wire I may have cut or pulled off? What makes it work? When I try to slide it I can see some type of diaphram move a hair then stops and it seems like it actually is starting the A/C because the engine starts to load. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you

Welcome to Corvette Forum. Your post will be moved to the C4 Tech section. A lot of knowledgeable folks there.

The 'select' heater/AC/Defrost is a select rotary switch not cable operated. Temperature control is a cable. I expect you don't have a FSM(Factory/Field Service Manual) so I cant reference you to the sections you need to look at but I will post an image of the control and what controls it. I can help you with the FSM and when purchased from me I also provide a very good GM SPO Parts Catalog that you could use to research parts information for your car. You don't have sufficient posts so that I can message you but you might be able to PM or eMail me using the links to the left under my user ID.

In this image #3 is the Select Rotary Switch

I don't believe so and since the OP mentioned specifically 'mode' (heat/AC/defrost) that is NOT cable controlled.

Here's an eBay offering where even you should be able to absorb the fact that it's NOT cable controlled. Look at the select rotary switch!

I do have the FSM but not the parts catalogue. Your pic is much better than my books. I believe I must have knocked a wire off because there is a red wire hanging about...I'll take the control out and look. Thank you.

Here's the parts information that matches the image I posted in #3.
