Got my heads ordered, AFR 195 Enforcers with upgraded 7/16 rocker arm studs.

Time to get some 7/16 stud 1.6 ratio full roller rockers.

I want low profile steel ones. I see some obviously Chinese ones on Ebay and JEGS for around $130-$140 per set of 16. Are these good to go?

The Elgin ones are $180-$220 but look the same. Are these just Elgin branded Chinese ones?

PRW ones look just like the Elgin and Chinese ones, but are around $350 for a set? COMP ones are almost $500 for the set?

Where is the optimal cost per performance and reliability with these things?

Ive been running 1.5, 7/16 stud aluminum rockers (not self aligning) from Scorpion. Pretty aggressive cam and springs. No issues so far. Dont remember them being too pricey.

Don't skimp here. The cheap ones have terrible geometry/sweep. If you check cheap ones to good one's, scorpion,comp cam etc
you will see

My AFR heads come with guide plates.

Cam is a 232/236 with 0.575" lift on 1.6 ratio

Hoping for a 6500 RPM redline and track use
3.90 gears

Should I go self aligning or plates and hardened rods?

Is full true roller advisable over just a roller tip?

Either self or guide plates, im sure you know not both. i still prefer guide plates and hardened rods. But thats just me.

And yeah go full roller...no reason not to.

I run Crower 1.6 full roller, trunion and tip. I dont think they make them anymore. But, dont go cheap on this item.. They are very important..

You can end up with a bunch of tiny rollers contaminating the engine, so it's not a place to skimp.

The Chinese rockers could also have trouble with spring pressures, ramp rates, RPM's, so see if they can provide some of that data and then decide... even the Scorpions have durability issues when you start adding more aggressive hardware. I like those Crower rockers above, also like the steel roller tip ones from Comp, also like the Harland Sharp rockers for aluminum alloy body rockers, and of course the T&D and Jesel suff is absolutely outstanding. I would rather get a used set of those than a knock off.

No to chinesiums. Reason nobody vouches for them. Good durable builds aren't cheap. Not worth the risk. Spend more once and be done.

Awesome thanks a lot guys, I am getting a lot of strong feedback here and on the Facebook group that this is not a part to try to save money on.

I already paid for upgraded 7/16 rocker studs, and the AFR heads come with actual guide plates, so I think I am going to go with the Comp Ultra Pro Magnums 1605-16

They are definitely way more expensive than I was hoping to spend on this part at $450 for the set of 16 with poly locks, but like everyone has been saying, this is an important part of the motor to get a high quality piece for. I like that they are steel for longevity, durability, and stiffness, and they're one of the newer roller rocker designs so hopefully they're doing the most to reduce moving weight while keeping strength and stiffness!

If anyone knows any deals on these please let me know!

I think the Scorpion ones are the happy medium between cheap and costly so I used them on my last build. Since there sold by AFR and they have done all the homework as far as Guides and what not, doesn't hurt either. If I wasn't using them I would be using Crower Stainless. On another engine I have I replaced the Crowers with Comp Cams and they make a lot more valve train noise. I asked my engine builder about it and he said its normal for them to make more noise. I would never of expected that.

Wow if I am seeing right the Crower set is almost $850 for all 16 rocker arms!

Crazy that the chinesium versions are as cheap $130....

I think that I am leaning towards the new Comp Pro Magnum Chromoly set for $450.

I have the 3/8 comps but older... they haven't failed me yet. I agree... there are places to go cheap but this isn't one of them.

That is $400 for a set of 8, would still be around $800 for a full set?

The Crower stuff sure does seem nice, just almost twice the price of the Comp!

Harland Sharp makes a great rocker and have been doing so for many years. Made in USA, warranted for life against breakage and are fully rebuildable at an affordable price.
