Default 84 dude asking about gauge cluster

so ive been dreading this coming project because of the price i would most likely have to pay in order to get this done. However, i want to know from the experts on here: my 84 doesn't read any information correctly. Whether the Gas Tank reads 1/4 when just filled up, to the oil temp always reading L for some reason. i cant trust the gauge readings because of this and i want to fix it. i want to know from yall, what could resolve this. Changing every sensor in the car, or is it something to do with the Gauge Cluster itself? Please anyone thats versed in the 84 digitals help!
ill attempt to remove the fuel pump and move the float to check if the reading on the gauge moves but im still wondering about everything else reading incorrectly. its also looks as if the information doesnt fit in the boxes either. i dont know just some more info

I would check grounds. Multiple sensors reading bad sounds like a ground problem.

I agree with auburn2. Sounds like a ground problem but also may be the ip cluster connection. They may be not seated or just not making good contact.

Batee.com has information about cluster, including wiring diagram. You will need a variable resistor to test gauges and a DVOM to test senders. If you remove well at gas cap, you can access fuel sender and pump assembly.

It is something wrong with that cluster. I think the polarizing film is installed inverted,
It should be bright numbers on dark background like on this picture:

The 84 may be the same as my 85. Take the ground wire on the heater blower and splice into it , run the splice to a real solid ground on the frame. . The ground wire is continuous in the 85.

It solved my issue. I studied the wiring diagrams and found this trick. It may help your issue.

There is a place in Rochester NY that did the GM rebuilds years ago and is still doing them,

thanks all for your insights. As for the polarizing film, i cant believe i didnt notice that before. i really need to get new film kit and replace this issue. if the grounding really is an issue, coupling these to things should hopefully fix my problems. thank you all again ill update when all's done
