I know there is a process where you mount and re-mount the tire in different rotation on the rim. By checking wheel balance in each step the most optmal rotation can be calculated. With tire mounted in this optimal position a normal balansing is done.

Quality wheels and quality tires should have fairly good balance to start with so there might not be much gain using this process considering the extra work needed.
