Giant metal pieces in oil pan
I just took off my oil pan and I found 4 giant metal pieces. 2 of them show a 9 on it and one piece had an 8 written on it.
What could this be ??

Possibly. It really depends on the condition of the bores. Chances are there are some broken rings too. But if the bores aren't scored it may be possible to put a set of pistons and rings in with a light honing. You also need to figure out why it happened in the first place. My first guess would be a timing issue or something else causing detonation.
It just sucks that the market value of these cars is so low that they aren't worth fixing.

probably was timing. It idles very poorly and then shuts off. Also back fires through the throttle body. I was in the middle of replacing the timing chain which is why I took the oil pan off.

i think I could sell ours for what we paid for it in 2010.
that’s after the thousands in dollars and hours spent on it.

There is a false math with cars caught in the mid-value range that says all cars are equivalent and a repair that costs more than book value is easily replaced by an equivalent mid-value car.
Because that replacement car of the same vintage is the same as a new car with a warranty, right?
If a C4 is only worth it's purchase price you never really valued it in the first place.

With the money I've put into my lowly base model C4, I could have bought a solid ZR-1.
Yes...I'm a moron.
But at this point it's basically just an expensive hobby.

If you can't afford a major repair to a Corvette, you probably shouldn't have ever bought it. And, if the car's in decent condition, why cast it aside simply because it needs some repair? Fix it and get back behind the wheel.

actually, youd be surprised how many sbc are out there running, not burning oil with pieces of piston skirt in the oil pan. if its not smocking, or knocking etc it will run longer than most realize. especially if they survived 50,000 plus miles.
