Whistle/whiney Sound at Driveshaft and Transmission
I have been hearing a new sound coming from my car. Starts when cold. Last for about 1.5 miles when I leave the house to the end of the neighborhood. Only happens when moving cant hear it when stopped. The best way to describe the sound is when I was little my grandpa had a manual pickup and it is the same sound when he went in reverse. Once I am going on the highway and the rest of my drive I don't hear it. Not sure if it is the front or rear of the car I cant tell.
Thoughts? Ideas? If I need to record it let me know.
Car is a 95, auto, stock, and 32000 miles.
*EDIT* Post 6 has the video and sound at the location.

It could be a vacuum leak. If it changes sound when you rev the engine, then it will be a vacuum leak.
Other causes are wheel bearings or sticky brake pads. Try jacking the car up and rotating the wheels, while listening to the sounds the wheel makes while turning.

You need to be a bit more detailed in your description of where the sound is coming from. I understand it is tougher but it really helps the trouble shooters here on the Forum.
Remember that a cold car's brakes will sometimes make that kind of noise until they warm up. You have parts barely making contact cleaning off the latest flash rust. Any time a car has sat for a couple days around here flash rust appears very quickly on bare metal surfaces.
Find a good road with Jersey barriers on both sides and open your windows and with a helper listen for any noises and where they come from. Let the passenger focus on the source while you drive the Corvette.

Here is the noise I made a small video. I noticed in the parking lot that the car still does it when warm but does it in lower gears. Or if it happens in upper gears going to fast and I don’t hear it

my $0.02:
Manual transmission? If auto the filter could be dirty not allowing good fluid flow until warmer...Doubt that is it.
U-joint might need lube or replacement depending if yours are sealed. Needle bearings might have some wear to them. Check slop in driveshaft forward to reverse.
Maybe the transmission seal to driveshaft is worn? is there leakage at the joint? Seal looks like a spring sealed in rubber. When rubber wears leaks or scraping can occur on driveshaft.
Seal and u-joints are cheap replacements. I prefer solid u-joints but everyone has opinions.
Kind of sounds like a pump low on fluid but an auto trans would have other symptoms for that like clutch engagement slippage.
Definitely not a honing sound from a rear end axle or brake rotors.

It does sound like a power steering pump...... But also sounds like gear noise from the diff transferring through the driveshaft. Have you looked into the axle yet at all?

UPDATE
I did replace the filter on transmission today. Oil was nice and red and didn’t smell burnt. Now in forward I can barely hear the noise but still noticeable in reverse.
areas I see of concern. On the drivers side on the transmission is some type of sensor I see oil spots all around it. Kinda clear looking oil on the finger
also on the rear end I have loads of black dirt on the housing and side walls.
on the quick jack I still hear the noise near the transmission and driveshaft

Sounds like hydraulic pump low on fluid. But, probably not it as it sounded very speed related with to the driveshaft rotation. Actually, sounds like a flat spotted bearing. as it rolls around.

Problem solved.
Took the car to a mechanic. The issue is a bushing where the transmission meets the drive shaft. Saw the bad part and it was worn out on one side. In the shop manual it is item 33 on page 7a 14b 63 (98% positive that is the right item). Also replaced the speed sensor it was leaking.
Was a hard fix for him once the car was warm the noise went away. One symptom of the issue.
Sorry it took so long to repost I thought I did already.
