Who makes the best replacement battery for corvettes?
My old "Wal-Mart Special" battery gave out. Before I replace it, what suggestions do you guys have for make and Amps? I heard the Optima was good, but what else?

The OEM AC Delco in my Olds lasted over 11 years. I've never had close to this life out of any other battery. When it comes time to replace the battery in the 'vette, it'll be AC Delco.

You're not going to believe this....I didn't even after I got one a few months ago.
Sam's Club has the Champion battery for $50. It's got a 108 month (9 years) warranty, 36 month replacement, 36 month free jumps.
For $50.... How could you go wrong?

Has anyone looked into the DynaBatt or any other dry cell battery? They are more expensive but weigh substantially less and seem to perform just about as well exept in maybe very cold climates. Check this out......

Some guys that had Mustangs used them and seemed to like them quite a bit. Like I said , very light , much smaller, no liquid battery acid to worry about......hmmmm :seeya

Can't help too much as my '92 still has the OEM AC-Delco battery in it and is working just fine. Last year I had it chacked and it handled 3 load tests right in a row and never got below 82% capacity.
IF that performance is any indication of AC-Delco's current batteries, I will replace it when the time comes with another one.
I would stay away from the cheapie $50, 3-year warranty ones. The ones you get at parts stores like the Excide and other brands just don't seem to last. Whatever battery you get, make sure it has at least 10% more CCA's that what is specified in the owner's manual. The Optima is a great battery, but you may have to clearance or remove the battery postive top post to clear the brace. You don't want any contact there!
I've bought DieHard's before and they seem to have a good life (6 years and better). The DieHard Gold series shoud run about $80-90 or so, maybe cheaper on sale or on-line.
Make sure you get the right group size and that the case fits the battery tray correctly and is held firmly. I have seen too many cars fail tech inspection at autocross events because the battery is not held tightly in the tray.

I have an Optima Yellow Top in the C4 and C5, mainly because of the big stereo systems and other added electronics, and an Optima Red Top in the Midyear. I am pleased with them all.

Wow, 13.5lbs for the Dynabatt. I really like the sound of that. Anyone here used one in their Vette?

Re: Who makes the best replacement battery for corvettes? (locobob)
locobob, from what I have seen (mostly on Mustangs) they seem to be very good batteries. Their only disadvantage is in very cold temperatures , their cold cranking amps are a bit lower than some typical batteries. That and they are a bit pricey. But consider the size difference, huge weight savings (13.5lbs instead of ~40lbs), and the safety difference with no fluid battery acid and the price is well worth it. Remember that every 10lbs lost on our cars is like adding 1 rwhp. Also losing weight only helps handling , and every little bit is nice. :seeya

Re: Who makes the best replacement battery for corvettes? (Shriker)
I realy like the weight savings of the DynaBatt. Less weight = more go. But...I just installed a new AC Delco in my 89. The original batery died. Granted, the car has less than 50K miles and is a garage queen and has never seen freezing weather, but it did have a long life as a battery. RIP. I guess the zeal for go (less weight) or the apeal of a long life (reliability) would drive my decision. If I were to do it again, low weight would win. After all, she is the garage queen. Fast is more fun. To hexx with reliability.
