Default New Torque Convertor

First I want to thank every one who recommended the S 10 convertor, had mine installed yesterday and I couldn't be happier. Car accelerates a whole lot quicker and and has added something to the fun factor ! The car also spins the tires with ease which it never did before !

Spinning the tires is pretty cool until you have to buy new ones. Also, it means you got no traction and you are wasting power. I'd rather get the power to the ground instead of up in smoke. Does the quarter a lot faster than a car that spins.

The S10 I believe was the same 2000rpm as was used on 85-86? If so then yes, it was a great TC for me. I almost like it as good as the expensive PI Vigilante I run now.

Is it good to just spin tires? Why would I want something that spins tires easily? As a side note, I think that when we switched to the Stallion one for my powerstroke, we noticed the trans ran cooler. Isn't that better for the trans?

aklim you have my permission to just pass on by my posts, your negativity and know it all attitude are not appreciated by me at all. What do you care if I spin my tires on the street just to see if I can, I don't care about what you did to your powerstroke ! Go drag race your car and pat yourself on your back and leave me alone!

Thanks. I didn't realize I needed your permission.

I was asking why it was good to have a TC that spins the tires since I assumed that loss of traction is bad.

The point of mention of the Powerstroke was that if a better TC does not throw off that much heat, would it be better.

Yes, I used to drag race it but I don't like it enough to spend an entire day at the track plus prep time and clean up time. Not when the wife and I enjoy out Powersports more.

I do not really need to pat myself on the back so not sure. Also, that was a question to all, not just you. As to my attitude, you aren't writing my paycheck or a hot girl in bed with me so your opinion of me doesn't matter.

FYI, part of why I am curious about wanting wheel spin is that I am trying to GET AWAY from it. Trying to get stickier tires WITHOUT going to DOT slicks because they suck in the rain. I am even considering them reducing the first gear ratio from 3.06 to 2.84 for wheel spin reduction so when I see someone doing something that gives wheel spin, I'm curious as to what the benefits are besides entertaining the boys watching me burn rubber and money.

The whole point of changing the torque convertor is to get the engine into its powerband quicker so it can apply more power to the tires at launch which will make the car faster if he hooks. The fact that the car can easily spin the tires now means it worked and he can now apply less throttle if he does not want to spin the tires or he can get stickier tires that will allow better acceleration with the new convertor.

And if you are at the limit of the tires? Without going to DOT slicks or tubbing the car? I'm trying to get it so it isn't as easy but is throttling the only way? Should I drop the first gear ratio to help it if I have to rebuild the transmission?

googliamoog had a chance to drive the car yesterday before the rain came and it again put a smile on my face! I think for the cost you can't go wrong I think you will be happy with it. Also my car is a street car so my goal was just to add a little more performance for not a lot of money and I definitely did.

yeah i was on the other thread i think. i been looking at this for a while. i'm planning to upgrade to the 3.07 gears and do the TC. mine's just a cruising car and i also just want a little more oomph from the gas pedal. nothing crazy and searching round these two things seemed like the best go. thanks to the forum experts as always.

super glad to hear yours has worked out as expected though! i'm not on a time frame for when i get mine done but i'm certainly looking forward to it.

What stall speed (rpm) are you able achieve now with foot braking the new S10 converter? Also any idea of the torque multiplication?

Just spitballin' here, but there may be higher traction tire options in between whatever he's on right now and a drag slick...

I think I am going to toss the 5 year old Nitto 555 and see about Conti extreme.

Thoughts about changing to a lower ratio first gear if I had to refresh the transmission?

Pacer X will be driving on my Hankooks for a while as they are brand new, also right now I am just looking to increase the fun factor, maybe a grudge night at the drags but not much else.
