A few years ago I upgraded my front rotors to 13" off a 96 , now I need new pads , our 90 convertable is a daily driver and when my wife lets me drive it I am not shy of driving it to Win ! :D
What is considered the most bang for the buck on brake pads these days ?

I would get the pads form Napa. Ceramix I think the call them.. The dust that come from the pads will be white. I have the Hawks on my car now and I have to wash the rims every few days..

If you are looking for a good cheap pad then go to Advance Auto Parts. I bought my front and rear pads for a little under $50 and they have a lifetime warranty too. Now I have a daily driver, and I do no drag racing and no autocrossing with mine so I wasn't looking for a top performer.

I installed the Wagner ceramic pads on the front of my Wife's 96. Very little dust and no squeaks.
Highly recommend them even though they set me back around a c note. :(

I've had a set of 25 dollar generics I put on the front of my 96 a couple weeks ago and honestly, they work very well... even from 60 MPH panic stops they work fine. They dust a little more then what was on there... but the dust comes off very easily. They work well enough that I just put a set on the back today.

This will hold me over until I put the C5 brakes on the front.. then I'll prolly go Ceramix all the way around.

So what about the kit sold by Corvette Central...4ea. drilled rotors and the compatable shoe's...like $499.00....is this a good deal or what.....I wanted to order but $$$$$$$$$$$$$ not ready at this time....what do you think for your upgrade??????

Hawk is what I run currently, will be doing hawks on my brembo calipers as well.

it would be nice if you state what hawk pads you run. there are only about 8 different compounds. same with raybestos, many compounds.....

Well I had to do something with the quickness' , I did find out a few things , the 13" rotors where an option in 1990 ! yet they use the same size pads !
Turned out my rotors where beyond turning , I priced around and AutoZone was the best at $90 for 1 and $89 for the other , think the right was a $1.00 less then the left and they are directional not like the stock 12" rotors ! As for pads I had tried Raybestos Brute Stop when I first installed them and they made noise while driving , took them back and put the stock ones on , no problem till now , I was advised then to go with Performance Friction pads , from a fellow who did Autocross in California ,could not remember the name till the guy at AutoZone recommended them yesterday , back then they where $79 now $55 so we will give them a try , had to order the rotors so I put the old ones back on and the original used pads from the 12" set will work till the new rotors arrive Tuesday ! I get this mess fixed and will need to do the backs as I did put the bios brake spring in the master cylinder so they are no doubt down as well ! Wish me luck :confused:

I heard the haek HPS fade big time at high speed tracks....

I went through 2 long track days, plus around 13,000 miles THe only fade associated was the crappy calipers not being able to keep up for prolonged use.

I doubt your fade is assocaited with the calipers. unless they spread apart, which I have only seen under full race conditions.... and then they are pretty much garbage.

It's probably the HPS pads fading, or the fluid not being fresh.

Not the fluid as it was replaced with motul 600 not to long ago, and the pads were frsh, so no reason for them to fade. The only problem is the stock calipers are worthless. The 13's should have been mounted on the rear, which is where they are going in a few weeks, and 13.5 4 pistons are going on the front. Which is what GM should have done in the first place with the ZR-1

street pads and 2 piston calipers can only take so much. if your doing 100mph speeds over and over you will want monoblock 4-6piston calipers and something like a hawk blue pad. the hps and hps plus if street driving is done also. physics just starts really comming into play when you want to stop a 3200lb moving object.

fresh street pads will fade under track conditions. They can only take so much heat.. What makes you think the caliper is "fading"? I suggest you get cooling ducts first. If you run street pads with new race calipers, you'll likely experience the same fade. You have a heavy motor in the car, you need race pads, and expect them to eat your rotors.
