Default Tires for 1993 Corvette

It seems that there are now very few options for tires for the C4s.I seem to have a choice between the Continental contact extremes or the Nitto 555 series. Are they my only options or do you know of any other manufacturer that makes the stock tire size. Information would be appreciated.

Maybe the C4 section would be a better place to ask?

I’d go with the Contis if you live up north...those are a three seasons+ tire...I believe the Nittos are summer tires. I have a lot of experience with summer tires up north. They turn your car into a hockey puck with even a light dusting of snow.

I bought the Nittos last year when I bought my 93 Vert mainly because of the price. I would not recommend them myself. After setting for a few days they flat spot and it takes several miles of driving before they smooth out. Other than that I like them but I never drive my car in the rain and it's put away during the winter here in Ohio.

+1 on the flat spots. My 96 has the Nittos and after sitting for just a few days mine get flat spots and ride a little rough until they flatten out. Pretty common with these from what I've read. Other than that they seem fine.

Nothing wrong with switching to a diffent size. Lots of 275/40/17 and 245/45/17 tires out there to choose from.

The Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires in 255 and 285 sizes are great tires for traction in dry weather and rain, and down to about freezing. They are not supposed to be run in cold weather. So if you don't drive in below-freezing temps, they are outstanding. Honestly, for barely any cost savings, the Nittos just aren't good tires. If they were $90/ea they would be, but they aren't. OTOH...

...^^^do this and all your problems are solved. You can choose between probably at least two-dozen types of tires in both summer and all-season varieties.

If you’re open to running 275/40s all around (or 275s & 245s) instead of the 285/40 & 255/45 factory set up you will open up your options significantly.

With the differences between brands’ section widths you will never be able to see the diff between a 285 and a 275. In fact, General G-MAX RS 275s I bought recently were about a 1/4” wider than the 285 Goodyears they replace (seriously). So be open to 275/40s and you’ll have a plethora of choices.

To clarify for the OP, you would only want to run 275/40s up front if you have the 17x9.5 wheels up there. I'm assuming he has 8.5s up front given his current tire sizes, so the 245/45/17 in front with 275/40/17s in back is definitely the way to go.

I have the Conti's on my 96. If I had known this I would have bought an all season tire. I will when they wear out. PS: The conti's have ZERO traction on snow and ice. Just moving from one garage to another (100 feet) in the winter is impossible. Dan

Default tires for 1993 Corvette

Got General G-Max AS 05 on my 1993 . Went to 245/45-17 front and 275/40-17 rear So far I couldn't be happier. Dry and wet traction are excellent. No actual snow/sleet experience at this point. No tracking for me so I was looking for a good street tire. With General's 70 bucks kickback incentive, it also covered mounting and balancing in the overall cost

I put Kitty's on my 94 in 2011. Handled like it was glued to the road.....in dry weather. All bets were off when the roads got wet. Never drove in snow or ice.
