Default [DUMB] Fuel pump replacement...

I'm going to replace my fuel pump this weekend and I have the procedure but my question is, does it matter how much gas is in the tank? Is it better/easier to do with it full or empty or does it not make a difference?

TIA

It doesn't matter how much gas is in the tank, you are taking it out from the top of the tank. Its really not that hard of a job. Make sure you have good ventilation.

Probably should refrain from smoking, and if the lines are hard to pry off don't use a torch on them :p: :jester

Yeah, I figured doing it like that would get the pump out a little faster than I would like... :D

I replaced mine along with the fuel injectors. Make sure to relieve the pressure from the system. When you remove the bolts from the plate that holds the guage & pump, make sure the little o rings around the bolts aren't broke. You did get a new pump filter with the pump? Make sure you pay attention as to how the pump filter is on the pump when you take it apart. Some have put it just the opposite of how it should go, interferes with the setup when put back in. Did you get your fuel injectors & clips back together? I didn't know how great my car could run until now. Zoom-Zoom! Wrong commercial!!!! Good luck.

Yep, got em back in and it runs great, what a difference. The throttle response and acceleration are much smoother now. I've had this fuel pump problem for awhile now so I figured I may as well do it now so I don't get stranded this winter.

Do you have to drop the tank to change the pump?

My Helm manual says to drop the tank. But most everyone here on the Forum said no. I have the procedure that Scorp508 posted a while back and that's good enough for me... :D

There is no need to drop the tank, everything you need to do can be accessed from the top. Just remove your fuel door. Take off the black rubber part that is around the fuel opening and its all right there. If you have big hands it might be a little tight for. I small hands, so it was easy access for me. Hardest part is getting the fuel lines off.
