whats the going price in your area for ..
whats the going price in your area for a (NEW or TOTALLY REBUILT)4L80E chevy Transmission WITH TORQUE CONVERTER do you have the option of upgradeing the stall speed and how much money for what stall speeds(do they require a CORE transmission, in exchange and if so whats the core charge if you don,t have a rebuildable core)
what are your good and bad expeariences with the 4L80E chevy Transmission, the reason Im asking is, as most of you know the later model vettes come with a 700/4L60 style transmissions and while theres lots of shops that SAY they can rebuild one to handle 600hp theres not one that Ive talked too that will put that in writeing and not add exclusions for racing use or limit your coverage time to something like 90 days, now since my long term goals for my 1985 vette include a bbc swap and 600hp plus the 4L80E chevy Transmission looks like the reasonable choice to me, and even my modded sbc is fast approcheing the point where the 700 style trans can,t handle the power it makes on a long term basis.any trans guys with good info please respond as my engine building knowledge far exceeds my trans knowledge.
(and yeah Im well aware that trans needs a seperate electronic controller or mods to run with out the electronic controller )
heres what Im seeing as the type prices, which I think are a little high,

The 700 trans is an easy one to rebuild....... why not contact one of the trans aftermarket outfits and do an upgrade yourself?......... There's lots of good info out there and lots of good companies.......... I think upgrading would be far easier than conversion. I mean they make powerglides that handle over 1000 horsepower.......... a stout 700 should be no problem. :seeya

Ive ask around and Im reasonably sure others here will verify that even BUILT 700r transmissions are a joke when you stick them behind a 600hp/600ft lbs engine combo for long term use, especially with a good set of slicks, I gave up counting the number of guys that payed big bucks for a built 700r trans that was (TOTALLY GUARANTEED) to handle 600 plus hp only to find that the transmission broke and the shop failed to honor the GUARANTEE saying the tranny was being abused by racing the car. :mad

The 4l80e's around here are selling for $1000 to $1500 - used. They are expensive.

The Transmission Center also offers a 700R4 called the MegaRaptor that uses the newest state-of-the-art components. It's supposed to handle up to 700 horsepower, and is the transmission used by Lingenfelter for at least one of his 700+ hp Corvette projects. Check http://www.transmissioncenter.net/700MegaRaptor.htm for the details on the parts used to built up this tranny.
I also was considering the 4L80E for my car, but I never determined from any of the board members what kind of modifications we called for in regard to the trans-tunnel, crossmember, driveshaft, etc. After talking to the guy that builds the 700R4 MegaRaptor, I figured it should be strong enough to handle up to 500 hp (advertised to handle 700+hp) which is probably all I'll ever run.
Definately let me know if you pursue the 4L80E. If you determine precisely what is called for with that swap, it might alter my decision not to install one myself. I'd prefer the bulletproof performance of the 4L80E (T400) to the leap of faith I'd be undertaking by installing the 700R4 MegaRaptor - regardless of the claims by the manufacturer.
