Default May need to Nomex-up for this post, but...

Also a long-time Porsche guy, and have "back-dated" a number of cars to reduce weight/complexity, etc.

Considering building a (different) LT1 car into a very simple, lightened street car with no radio, AC/PS, etc. Am used to driving some pretty gnarly cars so the lack of civility is not an issue.

Thinking of going with a carbureted rebuild of the LT, and wondering what can be done to convert from the Opti to dizzy (or other system).

Any ideas/experience with this?

Why not just stay with Porsche?

Because I've also owned Corvettes for longer than I have Porsches. But thanks for the excellent advice.

Plenty of race car/track cars have done this.

These cars are plentiful and cheap, so no worries hacking one apart...if you start with something that is relatively rough to start with, don't start with a museum piece. ;-)

I've enjoyed the fabrication journey with mine. Post pictures while you progress!

Aftermarket crank trigger ignition should work.

Thanks. Though that a light weight, simple C4 might be fun. Are there pictures of yours here?

Supporting vendor David Frederic converts LT manifolds to accept conventional distributors. There are also aftermarket intake manifolds that mount a conventional carb atop an LT block; these could also be modified to accept a conventional distributor,

I like you're desire to simplify the engine / vehicle, good luck.

Thank you. I had originally planned on doing an LS conversion (now have several aluminum blocks, etc.), but it seems like going the opposite dirction in terms of complexity might be fun.

idk if they do it for LT, but crank trigger might be another option that might cost the same or less in the end.

I've pulled about 400+ out my 86 so far and it's street, still PS but not gonna be forever.

This for drag or road?

Nice - your car sounds like it is/will be a very fun ride.

This will be a street car, with very occasional driver's ed./road course days. Would you happen to know if there is a good PS delete kit for C4's?

I started with an '88 Z52 that had frame braces etcetc and I elected to keep fuel injection on mine. I learned to do my own tuning and everything has worked out fine. I like the LS conversion but mine won't be going that route. I like the quickness and affordability of doing a local normal SBC rebuild. I've posted many pictures and started a lot of threads. I'll include a few pix here.

Thank you! It's been years in building and I should get some updated pix. I removed the mirrors, heater core, and wipers, last year. It always amazes me how long brackets take to make!

PM about the stock cam? I haven't changed them at all just replaced.

I kept power steering on mine but added a cooler and Redline fluid. The Hoosier's on there now are over a foot wide and it is tough to turn the wheel without the car on.

Think Boot had PM'd you previously if I'm reading his reply correctly...
