If I was to get a small cam with a nice choppy sound and wasn't too expensive which one should I get and do I need to get anything g else with it?

Congrats! What year C4? what System? factory EFI or Carb. Flat or Roller? if EFI. sorry, scrap your idea of a Choppy/lopped cam. without proper components & Mandatory tuning. is like trying to drive a boat up a waterfall.

It's a pretty much stock 86 c4 for now all I have is a brand new catback exhaust

that is much better! you are fairly limited to a cam Similar to the LT1 / LT4 cam. unless you have a tuner ready. you will need New Matching springs. High Mileage?

Depends on your deff of choppy? Modern EFI can handle more cam, but then your gonna spend a lot of $ on the EFI system.

Max for use with a 350 is 230 / 236 @ .050 with a 112 LSA. Anymore than that can't be tuned. Now, if we think about the low RPM benefit of the TPI manifold it is smarter to cam it to the manifold. 218 / 224 on a 112 makes more sense. I get call after call from people where a kid on the phone from Comp said this Thumper series works great. 236 / 244 on a 107. I laugh and say go buy a carb.

At that point, I'd definitely change springs and valve stem seals. A lumpy cam is going to need to be tuned to run right which is a waste of money and time assuming it can be done and run right. They do make sound recordings that you can play over the stereo system that sounds choppy for a lot less. Driving down the street, I doubt that the rice boys will know better.

Didn't mean anything offensive to you by it. I might have inadvertently cheapened the question about the sound but I didn't mean to cheapen the sound advice from you concerning the sound of the car.

I have a Comp Cams XE-265h-14 that I just took out of my 86.

It's in great shape with about 10K miles on it. It is not too aggressive but does idle with a bit of lope. It did run on the stock chip but a good tune would really get it dialed in. With the stock chip the car ran a best of 13.5 in the 1/4.

TPIS ZZ9 and GM ZZ4 with new springs 1.6 rockers intake and 1.5 on exhaust will provide some chop and work well on mostly stock motor. Zz4 likes 2 degrees of timing added and idle raised 200 rpms

OK, rennertristan.
Here's the ticket CompCams XE262H-10 cam, include a set of their 1:6 roller tip rockers, Springs and lifters, plus their timing gear and chain set. Throw in a new set of valve seals while your in there.
Then get a tune from MrWillys. He might even have a copy of the one he burnt for me.
You'll get a nice idle that sounds like it's a Corvette and great mid-hi end performance from an otherwise stock TPI setup.

You can even use the stock valve covers with out modification.

A lot of work to get some sound which you can get from a recording that changes with RPM.

What exactly does that mean? Stock form, it sounds exactly like a Corvette that was produced.

A stock L98 cam has a peak HP of right at 4200 to 4400. This cam brings that upwards of 5000 to 5200. This mod also dispelles the rumors that TPI runs out of power at 4500. It's small enough to compliment the lower end power of the longtube design manifold and with the much tighter LSA it hits much harder than the wide LSA of a stock L98 at 115. It can also be used with stock springs.
