Aftermarket computer to stock gauges.
Hey guys, I'm wanting to find info on swapping an aftermarket computer (Holley) in an 88 but retain the stock 88 gauges. Any threads that would discuss this you can point me to? Not mine, don't have a lot of info, just that the stock computer can't handle what's being asked of it with the engine that's been put in it but the owner wants to keep the stock gauges.
Thanks

After trying a new search I found this thread. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...thout-one.html
It appears the thing to do is leave the stock computer in place and use the Aftermarket just as engine management.

I don't believe it needs to be as complicated as all of that. The '88 cluster is pretty minimal and if you're just looking for GAUGE, TACH and SPEEDO I don't believe it required to keep the original stuff at all.
Like you mentioned it really requires more of a 'hands on' and knowing what the intentions are for the car. If the intention of maintaining a functional DIC etc. then of course the game changes I'd say.

My stock ecm is in a cabinet. All gauges work except for mpg. I am running an Accel engine management system.

How about a list of the things that are controlled by the ECM? To start:
1 - SERVICE ENGINE SOON lamp
2 - Torque converter clutch
3 - UPSHIFT lamp
4 - OD on 4 + 3 cars
5 - Injector pulse width to dash for mileage and range calculations
6 - ALDL input (pin B)
7 - ALDL output (pin E)
There might be more. That's all I can think of offhand.

..... I left the factory ECM in place while using a Holley Commander 950 ... same with a Holley HP ... using both strictly for engine operation ... the digital dash worked just fine ... I recently switched to a Holley Dominator to get transmission control and while the ECM is still in place , I changed the dash to all analog gauges for performance reasons only ........

Accel Gen 7 was the last EFI ECM made before they were bought out by MSD. Shortly after MSD was bought by Holley. Holley put the dagger in the Accel's Heart and mysteriously most of the vital parts to keep the system going got lost in the transaction. The Accel was well made and many of them are still in use. I have one on a C3. However for this thread what ever aftermarket ECM really doesn't matter. However this thread started with an 88 and should be limited to the 84 to 89's . Since the 90-96 cars the Dash took a big change and a lot needs to be done differently to make it work. I have been working with Batee and Dakota Digital to get my 1990 Dash going but it will be months till I work on it again and have any results. If I do I will start a new thread.
