86 Indy Pace Car Decals: Placement help?
Do you have detailed dimensions for placement of these pace car decals?
Is there an assembly manual available for 1986 Corvettes that might have this?
I'm not comfortable trying to scale side view photo's to do this.
Thanks,
Bob

It occurred to me also that he likely has some replica/reproduction decals and nothing short of measuring a known original install will likely help him. I believe he needs a "hands on" to a car that he feels is satisfactory.

OP ain't been back - looks like maybe a "hit and run".

86 pace car decals: I installed them
I could not find a 86 Pace car locally.
I bought the pace car decals from Phoenix Graphics. I was leery of using 30 year old original emblems. A set came to $234 with shipping.
I checked information in Volume 38, Number 2 Fall 2011 "Corvette Restorer (NCRS). "Decoding 1986 Corvette Convertible Pace Car Decals" by Peter Milhaltian.
I scaled the photos and ended up with the following locations:
(up and down) The bottom of the Indy badge is 1-3/8 inch above the upper door pocket edge (for the black bumper). (front to back) It is 2-47/64 inch from the door edge, measure inline with the bar above the 500 (to the decal edge). Be careful: There is a left and right side to the decals
The 'Official Pace car' decal is the same 1-3/8 inch above the upper pocket edge (from the bottom of the letters). It starts (or ends) on a line directly down from the forward edge of the door handle pocket.
The '70th Indianapolis...' etc. text line below the lower bumper pocket edge is 1-3/32 inch to the top of the letters.
I cut the decals with a scissors along the upper (or lower) edge of the letters and placed them on a masking tape guide line carefully measured from the bumper pocket edge.
Tape the letters in place along the edge forming a hinge to allow you to bend the letters back, remove the backing paper, spray with dish washing soap (1 tablespoon to 2 gallons of water), and fold them back in place. Use a plastic Bondo spreader to squeegee the soap out and to lay it down. After almost all the soap is squeezed out, remove the upper plastic cover by slowly pulling it at an 180 degree angle. Squeegee more. Remove the tape and you are done.
Before starting, I prepped the area with wax and grease remover and Windex, then Used Meguires no.7 for a clean surface. Windex again.
If my photo doesn't attach correctly I'll try again (a mysterious process)
Thanks,
Bob

Soap mixture error
Sorry,
Bob
(as to the placement of the decals, I'm fairly confident that they <in the past> were placed all over the place, even with index points. I saw a photo where the placement start point is behind the door handle pocket. Depending on who at the dealership or the owner that installed them, I'm betting on some very varied results. Having worked at a dealership, I've seen and heard some crazy things happening. I'm happy with how it turned out.)

Burning Brakes
If anyone is looking there is a OEM set for sale locally to me. I've already have them on my car or I'd be buying them.
