deadengine in 87 convertible
Good evening folks, I've had this 87 convertible 350/4+3 for 3 months now. The engine sarted making knocking noises a couple weeks ago. Took to my mechanic and he says probable spun bearing and rod knocking. So to expedite things I plan on getting a new engine/short block. The trouble is that there's 200 + listings on ebay. I'm not sure which one will fit. 4 bolt main, roller cam, ?? It appears to be the stock built with engine. Any suggestions or advise would be much appreciated. Not looking for 450 hp but a little more than stock wouldn't hurt. Thanks guys, Chuck

Pretty much any small block will fit. It originally had a 2 bolt main, roller cam, one piece rear seal block with aluminum heads. When I got my '87 it also had a spun rod bearing. A leaking fuel injector had diluted to oil to the point that it no longer protected the bearings. Make sure your new block doesn't suffer the same fate as your old one.
BTW, your original engine can be fixed. Since mine only had 60K on it, I had the crank turned, the rod resized, and reassembled it for about $400 (with me doing everything except the machine work).

Do a Google search for Jasper engines. They may even have a local distributor. Tell them what you are looking for and they will fix you up with the correct short block that will work for you.
