Default brakes dragging

I recently bought a '95, 6 speed, and I notice that when I come to a stop the brakes hang up. I can take my foot off the brake pedal and the car will hold, even on a slight hill. When I pull away, I can feel the braked holding the car back, requiring slightly more rpm to start up. After a few yards, it seems fine and will coast normally until I stop again. The harder I brake stopping, it seems worse. If I slowly come to a stop with light break pressure, it is very minimal. I have assured the parking break is completely off. I was going to jack up the car and check each wheel after breaking, thinking a caliper may be hanging up. Anyone have a similar experience, or other suggestions? If it is a caliper, what is the solution?

Thanks

If a caliper is dragging, it might cause the car to pull. After you jack the car up, if you feel a equal dragging pressure on both front wheels, it might be the actuator rod from the booster is not adjusted correctly and might be too long. If a master or booster was replaced recently, it might not have been set correctly.

If you back off the two bolts on the master while fronts are on jacks and the wheels release, you have found you problem, it's the rod. It can be adjusted without any brake lines having to be removed. You can just pull the master back till you see the rod. You hold the rod and adjust the end bolt 1/2 turn at a time. Clearance is about 1/16" to 1/8", but you should be close now. It is a trial and error method. Make a turn, bolt it on, test for drag on wheels, do it again. You need a clearance for heat expansion.

If it does need adjustment, turn the screw in to make it shorter. If you adjust to much, the pedal will activate the brakes to low.

I vote for bad caliper hoses.

An ABS controller with junk in the passages can also cause a caliper to hang up.
