Default not a good day at the track!!

Got to the track, went around the water, quick hit of the throttle just to clean tires off, and then pulled up to the line. Below is what happened next.

Oh well, some days you get the bear, and some days the bear gets you.

Nice.......half shaft failure..........

The ugly part of IRS and drag racing.......

I guess you had a nice ride back with the flatbed driver if you drove it there.......

Sucks, hope you get it fixed fast! I see your time is in the 11sec how old are the u-joints? Drag radial or street tire? Auto or manual?

edit: Did it break on launch or down the track?

^That is usually only a problem in C5^ cars. My C6 was terrible that way. My C4 never does it.

FWIW I would always check the joints for slack, but they were tight. I kept them greased with the mobil syn. grease. With as many runs as I had, I should have replaced them anyways, and probably with solid joints as well. At least that's the plan when it goes back together.

I was gonna say if it happened after launch. It almost looks like housing side it sheared the strap bolts on one end and then the other side of that u-joint broke off. Flung around some before the wheel side u-joint broke.

I don't think it did that. The shaft was on the track about 50ft from the start. But again, when these things happen its quick and then with a helmet on, its harder to hear.

Last time I broke one of those it also took my batwing out as well as creating a nice hole in my right storage bin. Make sure you use a non-greasable u-joint such as Spicer.

**Ugh*** That's why I've decided not to run my car anymore. I'm going to build a truck. Good luck with the repairs.
