Default Can a LT1 manifold replace a TPI?

Will a LT1 manifold fit a stock L98 engine? would you gain more horsepower over the TPI? would you have to change the computer? Is it worth doing it?

With modification yah(for example lt1 have no distributor hole or thermostat housing), use to be a guy who sold them modded. The ecm doesn't know what manifold your using, you might need a new tune. If you have a lt1 intake already maybe.

Do you think that you would get more horsepower from the LT1 manifold? A 1992 Corvette with the LT1 is rated at 300 hp. My 87 vette is rated at 240hp. Wondering if it give me up to 300hp.

LT engines have better heads, cam has more lift. Plenty of options for FI intakes I'll let some1 else suggest one or the other. I've looked at most and for what I want I'll mod my TPI for now.

There are quite afew choices of manifolds for the L98, TPIS makes a mini ram for the old tpi motors infact they had theres out afew years before gm cam out with the lt1. accel makes abig mouth base, and large runners, they also make a super ram that was designed by linginfelter, elderbrock make intakes for the L98. I sure some more companys make a mini ram style itake also. But I believe the TPIS is the most popular.

Just from the manifold? No. The LT1 has different heads, different cam, better exhaust and the car is tuned to make that level of power.

And as mentioned, the LT1 manifold doesn't have the hole for the distributor. The manifold intake ports will have a different shape and that can require some port matching work.

You can easily get 300HP or more with mods to your car, and you should be able to do it without changing the TPI setup. If your engine is at the point where it's rebuild time, you may want to consider a 383 cubic inch short block, some aftermarket heads from AFR, a good cam, the TPiS, ACCEL, or Edelbrock manifolds, headers and a true dual exhaust. A setup like this can easily go beyond 400HP with a tune. Of course, if you have to have the car smog-tested, you will have to carefully select parts that will get you thru that.

I am by no means an expert on this subject. A friend that I race with has this LT1 manifold on an L98 engine setup on his 1989. Car runs great with aftermarket engine components. He did say that only certain year LT1 manifolds were suitable for the conversion.

davidfredrick (pretty sure) sells these converted in the C4 parts section. Bet the bank it will be faster. Put headers and a decent exh system on it to fully realize the gain. TPIs got their place/nuances but they absolutely suck to take on/off.

The LT1 intake would produce less power below 3800 rpm on a stock L98. As long as you operate the engine above 3800 rpm most of the time it would be a waste.

Horses for courses
LTR vs short runner intake each have their specific advantages if you have the correct components to optimize each setup

Thanks for posting this again. It really shows the differences in these designs. Must be older than the First intake.
