Default ARP Balancer bolt is a great product..(review)

Anytime I find a product that makes working on our cars a little easier I like to share it with you guys... If any of you have ever had problems with the socket slipping off the balancer bolt when turning your engine over to adjust valves, this product is for you......This ARP balancer bolt is great, it sticks out about 5/8" and has a 12 point head, it's long enough that you never have to worry again about the socket coming off the bolt and eventually rounding off the bolt head ..Mine was so bad from adjusting my valves over the years that Im lucky I could get it out....This bolt has a Yield Strength of 200,000 psi, comes with the washer and lube for proper torque, and cost is around $23.00 at most automotive stores and sites......WW

Thanks for sharing WW.

Great product.

There are a lot of people that use them with the LS engines. The factory bolt is a torque plus angle type that is a one time use. I used the ARP bolt on mine when I replaced the balancer (Common LS problem).

I used one of these when I put mine together, Wayne.

The closest ARP distributor to me wanted $28 for one of these bolts. The price kind of slowed me down at first, but I'm glad I went for it. WELL worth it in aggravation saved (and skinned knuckles). I recommend this bolt for anybody who does a lot of work on his (or her ;-) engine.

Nice product! Keeping the socket on while adjusting valves is a PITA. And yes, I have lost some bark during the procedure.

For the track only cars I used a firewall mounted starter button.

I bought one of the hand held starter controls a few years back, I could never get the rockers to stop where I wanted them to stop.. I would either over shoot, or under shoot, my target every time.....But, I can see where it would be an advantage on a race car.......
When I had the stock balance bolt on my engine, I alway had to figure out what combination of socket and extension to use.. Now with the ARP balancer bolt, it sticks out so far, I just put on a standard short socket and it fits perfect without any extensions...I like when things are easy.......WW
