opinions on rebuild
So I have got a 96 vette with a blown motor, Now I have a used motor that is ready to go in and I got a quote from the shop I want to put it in for about 4500$, Now my question is.. The car is supercharged so I had been planning on building a forged motor for it. Should I just bite the bullet now and build the one that is about to go in? It seems like in the long run it would save me money due to having to pull the engine multiple times instead of just one time and putting a forged motor in to start with

That seems like the logical thing to do to me.. especially if you're going to pay someone to do it for you. I have to ask, was the super charger the culprit behind the failure of the motor that's in it now?

Holy Crap! 4500.00 for an engine swap? I'll do 2 a week for that, please! And I'll quit my regular job if I could just do one of them a week.
From that kind of labor, I would build my big motor and be done with it.

I would forge it now instead of pulling it again down the road. Make sure you have the right heads for super charging too, if you don't already.

Running boost on another shortblock albeit used will probably get you the same result
Wait, spend a little more and build something stout now.

You need to find someone who lives in the real world to install your engine for you. If boost is kept at a reasonable level I wouldn't worry about the crankshaft; put a decent set of rods and pistons in it and be done with it. Just my .02

Around my area the most you would pay for an engine swap is $750.00... That shop is a rip off....WW
