stripped teeth brass distributor gear
All new engine put in a 1990 ... removed the block 2 bolt main now 4 bolt main...all new everything except crank, .... 6000 miles on the new engine...and brass gear base of distributor shaft.... this is a garage queen.... that I step on occasionally..... the wear is centered and 4 teeth have rolled over/off.... so why did this happen?
and I have a 7 pin electronic ignition module..... hard to find the dist gear... 5 pin are easy ? to find.... I have experts helping me.... but I like my corvette forum experts A LOT !
thanks in advance.

Im guessing its actually a bronze gear. Common when using aftermarket roller cams. They are a maintenance item. 6000 miles is too long to run one, based on what my drag racer buddies say. They replace them yearly on drag cars that dont run near that much.

Here's the answer:

I would also drain oil now, and run 25 miles and change again to remove yellow metals.
Then there's the whole **** argument of using GL5 or GL4 oil standard with yellow metals I'll let other **** and moan about.

Only reason to run a bronze gear is if you have a billet cam gear
WHat material is your cam gear? Have grind #?
I run a Lunati everwear gear on a billet cma gear ok so far (200 mi)
Leave the billet/bronze stuff for the track only. All it does is wear stuff out. HV pump makes it even worse
Took me 5 oil changes to get all the bronze out. It is soft and probably wont hurt anything;very fine, goes right through the oil filter

If your cam is not billet, run an iron gear and you will be fine. If you run a bronze gear on a non billet cam, your gear will last about 6000 miles.

With a Comp cam a stock distributor gear can be used. The melonized gear I posted was factory on GM billet cars. Comp made it even easier, but if you want theirs it should be good.

pretty sure -8 indicates cast core doubt hes got a billet gear
Doesnt hurt to double check on that though.
Just dont use that plastic (imo pos) gear they sell.

I have a ton of money in this engine..... from a guy that allegedly knows what he is doing.... builds racing engines for a LOT of people..... and has for 30 years....so I'm a bit perturbed
