The #16198259 ECM will also work just as well as the #01227165...WW

Nope, it's actually an updated version of the #7165 ecm , drops right in..When I was having my 89 tuned and wanted to buy an extra ecm, my tuner said either one would work and I found a #8259 first..Most sites that sell ecms list both as compatible with out cars. Below is a quote about the 8259

Re: What ECM is this? 16198259
Hold on to that ECM (16198259)!!!!!!!! The best thing about this ECM is that it is a updated or newer version of the 1227165. The benefit of this ECM is that if any solenoids or coils begin to fail, the ECM will shut down that circuit to reduce the chances of the ECM getting damaged. And yes, that ECM works ONLY with 86-89 TPI (305, 350 engines). Your good to go.
