Who makes the best throttle body and where can I get it?
I was leaning toward Holley as everyone seems down on the BBK. I don't want to spend $500 either. My options so far seem to be the Holley, BBK, LPE and TPIS bored out stock. Did I miss any?

GM has the best TB...unless your mods include 383-400 cubes and alot of mods, you wont need a bigger one.
Btw,a 52MM TB installed on a LT4 motor resulted in no real gains.
BTW,If you have alot of mods,im leaning to the stock "bored and reworked TB".In 10 years,I havent heard one bad thing about them, usually always hear something about the aftermarket pieces.

I don't know who the manufacturer is, but i got a 54mm TB from Arizona Speed and Marine, polished etc. for my 383. I really like it.

FWIW
I'm running the stock unported 48mm TB. Just an open lid, K&N, stock MAF (was GMS MAF), stock TB, and 30lb injectors. This was all on the recommendation of the tuner Mike Norris. The shortblock is stock. Dynoed at 361 rwhp. Unless you're adding displacement the LT1/4 intake system flows plenty of air. :yesnod:

Youre not gonna get any gains from a 52mm TB on a stock engine. Youll need at least a cam change, and portwork IMO. You really should only put them on 355+ engines.

I'm planning out a 383 stroker with over 400 rwhp and rwtq. Figured at least a 52mm if not a 58mm would be necessary. I saw the 54mm from Arizona. It looks like a great piece but they wanted almost $500 for it, $150-200 more than the others.

Best price on the Holley? Summit has them for $360. Thanks

The Holley is a very nice piece, however the performance gain is 0. The stock motor just doesn't benefit from the larger TB. I've got the dyno graphs to prove it.

As I said earlier, its for a 383 stroker project. I'm debating also between 52mm and 58mm.

go with holley, also AFR/pro-action make the nicest LT1 bolt on head i've ever seen. you could get close to 450rwhp if you work it right. at that power a forged piston is probably smart. ross makes one of the best for street/racing. they don't need quite as big of ring gaps, used with something like speed-pro's duc. iron file fit moly ring and you wouldn't burn oil. scat has the best 383 cranks for the sbc period, there price/quality is awesome. there rods are also REALLY good, same with eagle. a 6" H-beam rod engine wouldn't be a half bad idea either to keep piston weight down. i've seen steel main caps on ebay for $75 lately..might be worth buying..not needed but for $75 i would at that power. once you know your head and intake flow i'd call comp cams for a custom grind. aquametalic94 on here would be a good person to copy. he's done just what you want. i went a little more than a TB answer but i've spent a good deal of time on engines lately & it's still really fresh on the brain & figure if i could save anyone a headache in 5 min of typing it's worth it.

Good stuff. I have a local shop called East Coast Supercharging, owned by a couple of vette/viper owners, who are going to do the work for me. They are reasonable and honest and just good guys. I made friends before I wanted to get this done. They also know if they screw up they are going to have to look at me every couple of weeks on rides. They've been building strokers and installing superchargers on LT-1 and LS-1s and putting on superchargers as well. I'm telling them I want stronger and more reliable than stock after the mods. I don't want to sacrifice driveability or kill my wallet but I want some serious power. Pretty tall but it seems doable. They are just becoming known and really want their work to get out there. I'm looking at forged pistons for sure. I was debating the need for a forged crank but I want to err on the side of strength and will probably go for that as well. I'm thinking LT-4 intake and was starting to look at heads. I have seen CNC LT-4, AFR, and also considered just having mine worked. Figure I'll need 1.6rr, MSD 6A ignition, throttle body, internal stuff I'm still learning like rods, valve springs, etc. I also want to add long tube headers, maybe ram air, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, electric water pump, etc. I may need to do this in a two phase project so I can build it the way I want it and not skimp to stay in budget. Phase 1 would be the internals and headers. Phase 2 would be the heads, intake, TB, ram air, and accessories. I would include everything requiring the motor being removed as well as anything else I can afford in phase 1, and complete it with the accessories and top end stuff later. Does this sound feasable or will it run like crap with the stock stuff on there? I was hoping for a little more until I can free it up with some of the phase 2 stuff.

eagle H beam rods are $300 on ebay and will hold 650hp, scats 9000 cast steel crank is good to about 700hp and is around $250-300 for a 1pc 383 design. there's not much of a need for the SUPER high end stuff under 600-650hp..spend your $$ in the heads

I'll tell you what, I'll sell you one for $450, take months to ship it, that won't fit your car without cutting it up into pieces and welding it back together. How's that sound? Its the GTSyellow way!
