What CAM is best for a miniram setup?
Going to miniram soon.
With ported stock heads, headers.
What CAM should i go with.
AND, do I need new fuel rails with the miniram, or it it "bolt-on" to the l98?
Regards

when you buy the miniram, it has a ruel rail kit you will need to get with it. I think the total will be ~$1200.00
I think the ZZ9 cam is a good match. Maybe you want to go to something bigger?

The cam depends on a lot of other items. As for the fuel rails, the stock rails won't work but the lines that come with the miniram rails don't work either. So basically, buy the rails and replace the lines with t-10 or your choice.

how much power will I loose if I use TPIS Big Mouth Manifold and TPIS Large tube runners instead of miniram on the set-up? I can get these parts pretty cheap from the pre-owner of my car?

Youll lose alot of potential power by sticking with TPI. You should get the MR. Cam choice is a big option with a 6speed, you can go at least a ZZ9, but i would go more aggressive.

You could go with anything from a custom grind to one of TPiS' larger cams that they recommend with the Miniram. You dont have to go with AFR heads, but the Dports do have a ported barrier around 400-425hp, whereas the AFR 190 should support ~400hp untouched.
With the M6, i might go with the ZZ-9X, or ZZ-X

can I make 400hp at the crank, with ported heads, cam, miniram, headers?

Your cam choice should be determined by the flow capability of the heads, duration, lift etc.... remember your car will also require a certain amount of vacumm to operate the brakes, mapping of the ecm etc.

If you still have a 350 you will probably not want to go as big as a ZZX. With this cam on a 350 you will have a highly eratic idle and probably not have any vacuum at idle, hence no power brakes. I do agree that you should go bigger than a ZZ9, it is fairly tame - like 212/226@.050. The zz409 or ZZ9x, or similar cam, may be a good choice since you have better flow potential than stock and you want higher rpm power.
Also, Comp cams will custom grind you a cam for the same price as one of their off the shelf cams if you can come up with duration and lift numbers.
Right now I'm running a custon grind with 232/236@.050 and the idle has some lope to it, but I also have ported AFR's which give me very good air flow. If you are running a 350 w/ported D ports I probably wouldn't go quite this big, but drivability concerns are up to you.
Either way just make sure you research your cam choice extensively it is very important. Find out what cams people are running in similar setups and how they have worked out.

Re: What CAM is best for a miniram setup? (C4-Wolf)
the miniram is a great idea & something i myself may move into one of these days. beings your in sweden i'm not sure what all you have easy access to but even the GM LT4 hotcam would fit a miniramed engine quite well. it makes great power to 6500rpm and will hit your 400hp goal. i'd recomend a better spring however. a .550 spring with a damper is a better choice than the GM single spring. it's maxed out on a hotcam & should be changed every year or two if you spin 6500rpm very often.

C4-wolf, out of curiousity what are your .500 lift flows numbers with the AFR 195's. I currently run the ZZ9 with the ported stock D-ports with a MR. Don't think the AFR's will outflow the d-ports by much. Otherwise, I would be tempted to swap to a bigger cam and the AFR's.
Thanks...Phil

Re: What CAM is best for a miniram setup? (wheelsup)
with my miniram, i'm going to be running a comp cams, at 50, 224/230 at .503 lift intake/ .510 lift exhaust. which is 509/516 with the 1.52 rocker ratio. If your heads will flow it, you will want a cam with lots duration, to take advantage of the air flow the miniram/ported heads provide in higher rpms. Thats where you will see some MPH gains in the quarter mile.

Re: What CAM is best for a miniram setup? (Oh My)
are you kidding? the AFR 190 will slaughter a D-port @.500 lift, nearly 50cfm if i remember right. the real hot ticket i've been looking at if i do a head change are the pro action alum. lightning heads. these SOB's flow 270cfm on the intake and 195cfm on the exhaust and cost $849 for bare castings. 300cfm is possible with port work, also you keep the intake runner size in check for a miniram. 180-190ccs fit perfectly on a miniram  this is the perfect head for a 6700rpm hyd. roller cam or 8000rpm solid roller that is still streetable.

Re: What CAM is best for a miniram setup? (devilfish)
The LT4 hot cam 218/228 112 lobe separation angle (LSA) .525 lift is a pretty good cam. The power band of the engine moves up about 200 rpm for every 6 degree increase of intake duration at .050. So if the stock cam peaked at 4500 with 201 deg intake, the peak would move to 5100. The late model stock cams use a wide LSA so which tends to move peak power down the rpm band. Going from a stock 115 to 112 can move the peak hp rpm quite a bit. Get a copy of desktop dyno and play around with cam profiles if you want to get a better idea of how this stuff works.
