I know that Snap-On used to sell those. Don't know about nowadays. I don't know of anybody else making that tool.

Really cool tool. You hold the shock nut with a wrench and use a ratchet to screw the shock shaft out of the nut. A LOT easier than trying to unscrew the shaft with a 1/4" wrench.

use a 'nut splitter' on one side of the retainer nut, rotate the shock assy 180* and 'split' that same nut on the other side, gentle tap with hammer/chisel and the 'busted' nut falls away...yes, a new nut will be needed, and your car will no longer be 100% 'factory'.

If you don't plan on rebuilding the shocks just cut the stud with a hacksaw

I am looking for the actual top oval socket that fits the top of the shock, does anyone know the exact size? One person posted a link, but its no longer valid and and JUST got my Sears point Valved shocks in from Bilstein and dont want to booger them up with vice grips even though I know they will work.

Channel-locks good & tight won't slip nor mar the surface; a racheting box-end (Sears) will then tighten the nut.
