Heavy duty brakes and FX3?
Were the heavy duty brakes (RPO J55) part of the FX3 suspension package or could they have some with any other options?
I've got a 94 LT1 Coupe, I went to change my rotors and pads today and when I pulled the front wheels, it turns out I have the 13" rotors. I'm not complaining, it's just that I had already bought a set of upgraded rotors and pads.. I double checked my options list and sure enough J55 is NOT listed...
I checkout the the owner history when I bought it (even looked up the last owner and called him) and from what I found out I don't think any of them would have upgraded on their own... but I'm guessing that's what must have happened??
So I had some "getting to know my corvette time" instead and cleaned the front suspension up a bit... judging from the amount of crud on there, don't think anyone ever did that either!

on my 89, first year for 6-speed and fx-3, you had to buy the z51 suspension package and sport seats. then when you added the fx-3, they removed the z-51 springs and sway bars and substituted the z-52 springs and sway bars. the j55 brakes and other components where left on. then in 91 they started the z07 suspension which left the z51 springs and sway bars in tact.

If the car left the factory with the J55 option brakes, I believe it would be on the RPO sticker.
No matter if it was part of another package or not.
I have J55 on my RPO sticker on my '96
For 1996, J55 was standard on all Corvettes, so it really wasn't an option but it is still listed on the RPO
Get a copy of the build sheet, and you will know for sure if the car left the factory with J55 brakes.

Does the car have the Z07 performance suspension package? Z07 included the J55 brakes and FX3. But FX3 could be ordered as a separate option and came with the base FE1 suspension. It's entirely possible that the selling dealer could have upgraded the brakes to the J55 stuff if the original buyer wanted them.
The RPO sticker should list the individual components of the Z07 package if the car has that option.
